We'll never understand why people want to make complete and utter fools of themselves, but karaoke remains a worldwide phenomenon that puts a microphone in the hands of anyone who's willing.

Well, if you're one of those willing brave souls, you'll be happy to know that Konami has announced Karaoke Revolution , developed by Blitz Games, for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Wii. It's not to be confused with a game of the same name that's currently available for the PS2; this new title will feature 50 master recordings, a deeper character creator, and customizable venues. And although we don't have any details just yet, Konami is planning downloadable content for the game, which should start to arrive soon after the launch. We'll also get a "party-centric playlist" and a duet mode that will be playable both online and offline. Revolution is set to release some time this fall and when Konami comes forward with a solid date, we'll let you know about it. Music fans ought to be intrigued; we've got all the Guitar Hero and Rock Band titles, but as far as karaoke fans are concerned, we're a little thin on singing-based games. Of course, titles like SingStar are hugely popular in Europe even if they never really caught on over here.

So who's willing to tune up their vocals? You know, in a few years time, we wouldn't be surprised if the new American Idol attributes his or her win to some karaoke-based video game.
