Infamous To Boast Innovative, Diverse Musical Score

Music is a major part of the video game experience in this new generation, and you'll be happy to know that SCEA takes it very seriously.

Sony Computer Entertainment America has announced that the hotly anticipated PlayStation 3 exclusive, Infamous , will feature a truly innovative musical score that features underground electronic musician Amon Tobin, world-renowned composers James Dooley and Mel Wesson, and electric cellist Martin Tillman. Veteran Music Manager Jonathan Mayer is at the helm to assemble this great music, and his resume includes God of War II and Uncharted: Drake's Fortune . Here's a direct quote from the press release we received; it ought to really pique the interest of all you audiophiles out there:

"To encapsulate the gritty and decimated nature of Empire City, Mayer and the contributing musicians threw out all conventional standards of traditional music production, turning instead to real-life objects and materials found in urban environments. Objects such as trashcan lids, water jugs and broken glass were combined with traditional music instruments played in non-traditional ways — bungie cords were stretched across a concert bass drum and strummed, wire brushes were beat on a suspended tuba and shakers were constructed of broken glass. Recorded and produced at SCEA’s newly built Foster City recording studio, the end result is a hybrid electronica orchestral score that enhances the chaotic and menacing nature of the city."

SCEA Director of Music Chuck Doud added that Sony's very competent console "has unleashed a new set of possibilities for in-game music to interact directly with the gameplay," and we can expect nothing but the best for Infamous . You'll like it so much, in fact, that you'll probably want to pick up the complete soundtrack on May 21 for the agreeable price of $9.99. You can also look forward to a new feature that will pop up on Qore on the PSN this month, and we'll continue to keep a close eye on this very promising action extravaganza as we get closer to June.

"sounds" cool, im going to check this game out when it comes around. it would be nice to see a demo available… but from what ive seen, it looks to have some promise, and stands out from other games. and a cool soundtrack is a plus.

They obviously care a lot about this game, and yet they wont give it its own section on the playstation forums.
I don't even go there often, but that bothers me.

Sounds like they hit up Stomp for some crazy ideas, but I'm still worried about how good the game will be. For whatever reason big names in either movies or music tend to equal a bad game. Looks good from the footage I've seen though.

Anyone else hear tinges of "Jurassic Park" and "Star Wars" in the KZ2 music?

The game looks pretty good, I'm just a bit worried about replay value. Apparently the musical score is quite good but a custom soundtrack would be better. Although the choice between both of them would be the ideal choice.

But with a custom soundtrack it couldn't interact with the gameplay, as mentioned above. That's why I've never liked custom soundtracks. For me, they just mess up the experience.

You're right though. I suppose the option for either would be best, so we could both be happy.

They will have to do something awesome to top the Little Big Planet sound track. Heck, sometimes i throw that game in just to hear the songs.
Im looking forward to this game though. It sounds like a sci-fi Fable, which is great because i loved Fable.
