We hope you're satisfied with Resident Evil 5 because if you're holding your breath for the next installment, you're not gonna make it.
In speaking to The Gadget Show's Jason Bradbury, RE5 producer Masachika Kawata has said that Resident Evil 6 could be in development for the next eight years . In fact, despite earlier supposed confirmations, Kawata won't even say they've decided to make another RE entry. According to the last update, Capcom said RE6 would be a complete departure from the standard tradition of the long-running franchise; many interpreted this as meaning we'll finally be able to shoot and move at the same time. But either way, people are expecting a completely new look the next time we see RE…and now, it seems we may not see it. Well, at least not for quite a while. Said Kawata:
"We haven't decided whether we're going to make Resident Evil 6 yet. But if we do, it could take anywhere up to eight years, but hopefully only four."
Four years certainly sounds a heck of a lot better than eight, but even that puts the next RE in 2013, which many die-hard fans may consider unacceptable. We'd like to say that we expect to hear more RE-related information in the near future, but after such a statement, it's difficult to believe. Maybe RE5 is worth playing through again…?
