Several weeks ago, we guessed at the possibility of more PS3 exclusives in the future. Well, it seems that today's news from the Game Developers Conference has proven us correct in some small measure.
According to ScrawlFX , a new independent developer has lifted the lid on their project, a title designed for the PlayStation 3 and PC. It's called Strength of the Sword and can be considered a third-person action adventure set in a fantasy universe. Fresh face Ivent Games will be at the helm, and you will play as Strahil, "former leader of the 'Upper Kingdom' and victim of a plot leading him to prison." Your environment will consist of the "Island of Dreams," and you will slash your way forward through four more locales in an effort to lay down the law. Those who wrongfully imprisoned you will pay for their treachery! You can check out some concept art and early screenshots over at the official site , and as you can see, it features a cartoon-y artistic flair. In some ways, we're reminded of The Mark of Kri , and we always appreciate a new take on video game visuals. It'll be interesting to see how Strength of the Sword shapes up over time, but we have high hopes for the final result; we could always use another great PS3 exclusive, right?
We'll keep an eye on this one, and whenever they decide to provide us with an estimated release date and more details, we'll be sure to let you know.

Hey, Ben, any idea why MGS4 (which almost swept GotY awards in '08) isn't even a nominee at GDC 09? Just seems really odd.
just looked at the website and imo the graphics look a little last gen. still plenty of time to tweek things up a grade…
Exclusive to Wii? That is how the graphics appear to me. I would not release images looking that bad…

I wouldn't go that far. They are going for a stylized look.
Besides, while pretty grahics are a bonus, they are not the only thing. I'd rather have a fun game with average graphics than a gorgeous, but boring, game.
I agree, it is mostly about gameplay, but the polygons and angles on these screenshots are early PS2/late PS graphics.
The concept art looks great, the story muight be interesting, but it will be hard to get around the graphics. I am usually not a graphics whore, but this is no more than a "Maybe" rental. Love the Tim Burton backgrounds though.
Who knows, they might tighten it up and make a awesome sleeper title.

Not so sure about that since the Wii is maybe only slightly more powerful than a GameCube… if that.
There is a reason most people call the Wii a Gamecube in a new casing with waggle controls.
BTW, I have a Wii. Just picked up MadWorld for it… another game that would have been on the PS2 as well last gen.
It is killing me to see all these games that would have been on the PS2 last gen going exclusive to other platforms (MadWorld, Deadly Creatures, No More Heroes 1 & 2, Ace Combat 6, etc…).
Nice to have another exclusive added to the bunch, look forward to hearing more about it

It is nice to have different kinds of visuals for games but I think this might be lazy effort on their part. I love the visuals in Valkyria Chronicles and PoP, but this.. I'm not so sure. Let's hope the gameplay makes up for it..
This would be pretty freaking cool as a $20 budget downloadable title.

If its anything like Mark of Kri, I will definitely pick it up!
Those visuals aren't stylish. They're childish.
That is a slap in the face to any current gen console. Looks like MediEvil.
Is Ivent a Sony studio? Because this game looks a tad like it belongs on 360, haha.
If Ivent was under that Sony Umbrella, Sony would tell them to use a better engine (i.e. R2, KZ2, Uncharted, Motorstorm, etc.) or help them make their own engine better.

I don't like that art-style…AT ALL! I'd pay $20 tops, for a game that looks like that.
I like the artistic look of this game. Will be interested in seeing how smoothly it runs.
it looks like it plays like KH, but i'm only looking at that thumbnail pic lol
Looking at that thumbnail pic doesn't quite get to me.
The graphic is ugly but hopefully that's just me or an early screenshot.
