Now that Resident Evil 5 has cleared the starting gate and is off and running, Capcom has two more promising projects waiting in the wings: Dead Rising 2 and Lost Planet 2 . For the record, we know the former is definitely coming to the PlayStation 3, although we're not quite certain about the latter just yet.

Anyway, after the recent DR2 unveiling, everyone was hoping that we might see the new zombie slasher later this year, and many were anticipating LP2 to launch before 2009 ended. However, it appears that neither will see the light of day until 2010: according to DPAD Magazine, Capcom US Communications Director Chris Kramer indirectly confirmed the timeline schedule for the two games in question. Kramer issued the following quote during a recent Major Nelson podcast:

"Capcom’s kind of on a 30 year high right now, it’s a pretty amazing place to be. Between everything we’ve got going right now, between the launch of Street Fighter IV and Resident Evil 5, and our big titles for next year, Lost Planet 2 and Dead Rising 2."

For those of you who never had the pleasure, Dead Rising was clearly inspired by certain horror movies, as you are battling legions of the walking dead in a suburban mall. Just about anything can be used as a weapon – the game's primary appeal – and a lot of people enjoyed the all-out, non-stop action. The sequel will be set in a Vegas-like setting, too, so we can't wait to experiment with impromptu weapons! It's too bad we won't be getting it this year, as some people projected we would, but we can wait. Oh, and we'll let you know about Lost Planet 2 as well.
