We've heard the whispers that Insomniac's newest project might be multiplatform, but information gleaned today ended such speculation. According to the latest report from Gamasutra, Insomniac's new title will indeed be exclusive to the PlayStation 3.
We have no further details on the project at this time, but it's enough to know that Insomniac is sticking with Sony's machine. This is one team that doesn't really know how to produce mediocrity; the likes of Ratchet and Clank and Resistance should be more than enough to convince you of this studio's capability. Furthermore, Insomniac was able to reveal that they are one of the best employers to work for in the state of California; in fact, they're the only video game company in the top 5. The Employers' Group ranked companies in the state based on work environment, policies, practices and benefits, and hey, as an added little perk, Insomniac plans to take their employees and significant others on a cruise to the Bahamas to celebrate Insomniac's 15th anniversary! This is the 8th time the studio has been placed amongst the best workplaces since 2005, and founder and CEO Ted Price had this to say-
"Last year was an especially historic time for Insomniac in that we launched two successful games in one year while also laying the groundwork for our new North Carolina studio. It's therefore especially gratifying to earn such praise for our work culture considering the volume of activity and change we experienced. When we factor in the multitude of innovative companies populating the state this honor becomes even more humbling and special."
Of course, the quote that got everyone in the industry talking is- "Insomniac Games is currently developing an unannounced title, exclusively for PS3." Even so, we should give these guys some respect for all their accomplishments…who wants to go work for Insomniac now? Raise your hands!
Probably Ratchet…would be cool if its a new IP.
Probably!
I wouldn't mind a bit…
hmmm, i dont think this is ratchet and clank as they announced that after quest for booty. its either a new IP (fingers crossed) or Resistance 3
hope its something new and i dont play the current 2 games made by them
Sony should just buy Insomniac and Sucker Punch now.
True that.
That would be awesome and I'm sure Sony would love to but they have to be for sale first. 😉
no, those guys are loyal, buying them won't change a thing, they are part of the sony family without the papers, if I were sony I would focus on buying SE or lvl5 or kojima, instead.
There was an article about Level 5 that came out around the release of WKC that reported if WKC sold well that Level 5 would officially become a second party of Sony, much like Insomniac and Sucker Punch.
When you think about it, Level 5 has always been a Sony second-party developer. Except for the Professor Layton DS games, most of Level 5's development has been for Sony machines. Yes, there was the aborted Xbox RPG that went nowhere, but that's it as far as I can recall.
Still, with M$ft lurking out there looking to hurt Sony's PS business, and having gazillions of greenbacks to accomplish that, I'd feel better if Sony bought Insomniac, Sucker Punch, Level 5, and Media Molecule before M$ft, or Activision or EA, snaps them up and Sony loses their exclusive services.
Or before one of them decides it wants to go multiplat like Ninja Theory.
If you throw enough money at someone at some point it becomes hard for them to say no. And we all know M$ft loves to throw the green around.
Insomniac <3
I'll be happy with anything they make.
But I'd like too see the new Ratchet & Clank with the best multiplayer ever!
Ratchet & Clank multiplayer and Co-op would be simply immense
I would like to see something new no more shooters
PSN ID Biggest_GMoney
I deeply agree.
Insomniac = quality. So let's see what happens.
Man, if I lived closer to the RTP area, I would be all over trying to get hired at their NC location.
I live in Virginia, about 2 hours from north carolina!
I do know that a Ratchet And Clank Future game is probably arriving this fall; they promote it at the end of Ratchet And Clank: Quest For Booty. I'm pretty sure Resistance 3 is on tap for late 2010 as well.
What if they did a survival horror game?
that would be a new one for Insomniac
Nuts to that, what if they did an RPG?
Would like to see a non-shooter and something new and fresh.
sweet LORD.
T.T Yes Insomniac! Ever since the age of 10, I always loved and played each and every one of their games.
Damn, I would love to work for them! And I would guess that it's going to be a new IP, so I'm in!
I think Insomniac need to step into the the MMO scene, Imagine a whole universe centered around Ratchet and Clank, they have had enough games in the series to flesh it all out.
Or better yet they could try a RPG. Seeing as how they stepped into the FPS scene when the PS3 arrived and aced that on the first go round they could surley, do a good RPG (Just get some good writers…and I mean EXELENT WRITERS NO SHORT END OF THE STICK STUFF), they got great design and code teams so thats all they need.
That would be awesome if they did an rpg. I like the ratchet MMO idea as well.
Whatever insomniac comes up with II know it will be good.
I don't think it's gonna be another Resistance, maybe a new IP
RPG?
a survival horror please!
i rekon these guys could pull it off
I have always thought Insomniac is the best developer to exist. Ever since the Spyro games i was just blown away by their ability to create perfectly balanced games in every aspect. They impressed me even more when the ps3 showed up and instead of bitching about the new cpu they buckled down and made an insanely awesome launch title for the machine. Ratchet & Clank Future blew me away with its visuals, story, and of course the old R&C charm. I hope the new IP doesnt show up until Resistance has ended its series. I would hate to see Ratchet in a 3 year cycle and i doubt they have the manpower to pump out 3 games every 2 years.
Also, no survival/horror games please. They arent scary and seem to rely on the "scary" moments instead of making the game good by its own merit.

Sony wouldn't be able to buy Insomniac as the president has spoken before how they are HAPPY to be independent and that Sony treats them VERY WELL. I would agree a RPG might be an interesting element to add to their repertoire, but a MMO I doubt that will happen…unless it's like a Socom multiplayer type of IP.

this is what I love to see loyalty, they could clearly make triple the money releasing for all systems.shows that for them is not only about the money,(staring at Square Enix and Rockstar).
Have you ever seen their office? They make a ton of money from the looks of things. They dont have a huge staff, but the people they have are incredibly talented. I believe Ted once said they have guys that were writing games for the Genesis, so they know game coding really well.
I'll have to halfway disagree Juan. Rockstar and SE both went multiplat at first, but now they are leaning more and more to M$'s side. I can see if SE made all of their titles for the PS3 and 360 equally, but all I see now is almost all of their games being exclusive to the 360. And the only game they had exclusive to the PS3, is now multiplatform.
Same with Rockstar. They Made GTA IV for the PS3 and 360, but only released the Lost and the Damned for the 360. Money whores IMHO. GTA suffered because of the inferior hardware IMO also. Without the PLAYSTATION brand, both games would never have gotten to be as popular as they are now.
Companies take notice: treating your employees well pays off! GAH, there's so many out there that treat you like a prom night dumpster baby I can't stand it.
Woot Woot, the Dow is up today!
this is awesome now this is a great dev team i hope they are successful at their new title
It's called the "Google" effect.
Probably just be some ratchet spin off for the psp
exclusive for PS3. Besides, they've already done that lol.
"STAYING TRUE"
Good job, Insomniac!
They have an excellent library of games they've developed. It has all been Spyro and Ratchet over the years and now they've come up with the brill Resistance franchise. I think they are capable at coming up with a quality game from any genre.
Just glad it's exclusive to ps3.
I hope it is something new, I need to burn myself out on Killzone 2, then RPG it for awhile before I'll be ready for Resistance 3.
wat do u mean a ratchet spin off for the ps3 ur crazy lol j/p its for the BEST SYSTEM EVERRRRRRRRR!!!!! THE PS3 BABY!!!!!!!!
MAYb Action/rpg?
Something different would be nice. I love Resistance, but it's too soon after R2, and I'm still addicted to Killzone 2 (and I won't get over that for several months). Plus, they have a new RaC game coming out later this fall, so I don't think it's going to be a game from that franchise.
Although creating a new IP in the middle of a series like Resistance is also not an entirely good thing either (although I'm sure they could pull it off)…we'll see what the future brings, I suppose.
Resistance was fun…
Why would they make the game exclusive to PS3? What do they gain by doing this? It can't be loyalty. Sorry, but if you were making a game, and it could be played by 25 million people or 50 million people why would you choose the former? They must give them something. This is business, not elementary school. It's not about friendship, it's about cash money.
Or the inability of a DVD9 to keep up with projects of a larger scope. I'm not saying that's why, but depending on the project it certainly could be.
