Ubisoft has finally confirmed that a sequel to Assassin's Creed is in the works, but beyond the initial announcement, we have nothing in the way of concrete details.
The good news is that this is the Internet. Information tends to leak out long before the developer or publisher sends out any sort of press release, and a "foreign games journalist" may have laid eyes on an early build of Assassin's Creed 2 . You can see the evidence over at Destructoid ; as you can see, an unnamed journalist who goes by the name "J.Q." supposedly stumbled across a Ubisoft booth where they were showing off an early trailer for the highly anticipated sequel. The setting in question is that of "15th/16th century Venice," which sounds awfully intriguing. In the trailer, an assassination takes place where a pretty girl lures a man out to dance at a masquerade ball of some kind, and that man is promptly stabbed through the back. Obviously, this doesn't tell us much about the storyline, but it's good enough to know that Venice will be the setting…well, provided all of this isn't some sort of elaborate, descriptive hoax. And if Ubisoft is showing this off to some people, perhaps we can expect to see the first official details very soon, so we'll keep our eyes peeled. We greatly enjoyed the original title and we expect the developer to build upon that very solid foundation.
Perhaps they'll confirm or deny this report in the coming days, but in the meantime, just let your imagination take you away. As Indiana Jones once said, "…ah, Venice."
