Ubisoft has finally confirmed that a sequel to Assassin's Creed is in the works, but beyond the initial announcement, we have nothing in the way of concrete details.

The good news is that this is the Internet. Information tends to leak out long before the developer or publisher sends out any sort of press release, and a "foreign games journalist" may have laid eyes on an early build of Assassin's Creed 2 . You can see the evidence over at Destructoid ; as you can see, an unnamed journalist who goes by the name "J.Q." supposedly stumbled across a Ubisoft booth where they were showing off an early trailer for the highly anticipated sequel. The setting in question is that of "15th/16th century Venice," which sounds awfully intriguing. In the trailer, an assassination takes place where a pretty girl lures a man out to dance at a masquerade ball of some kind, and that man is promptly stabbed through the back. Obviously, this doesn't tell us much about the storyline, but it's good enough to know that Venice will be the setting…well, provided all of this isn't some sort of elaborate, descriptive hoax. And if Ubisoft is showing this off to some people, perhaps we can expect to see the first official details very soon, so we'll keep our eyes peeled. We greatly enjoyed the original title and we expect the developer to build upon that very solid foundation.

Perhaps they'll confirm or deny this report in the coming days, but in the meantime, just let your imagination take you away. As Indiana Jones once said, "…ah, Venice."

First!

That's pretty cool. Can't wait for #2. Venice would be a great place to set it in.

And nice use of quotes, Ben.

as long as they can incorporate swords and such into it I'll be happy, It would kind of just make it Hitman in venice if they added guns

Were there guns in 14th/15th century Venice? I don't know…I'm genuinely wondering.

AC was too repetitive for me II think II will pass on the sequel.

Think I'll pass as well. It was fun for the first hour or two but gets really dull really quick. It was a pretty game but they should've focused more on gameplay instead of graphics.

i hope you will be able to swim this time, that would make it less annoying when you fall into water.

and it's in Venice, so not being able to would suck rightously

Less Spiderman 2 and more GTAIV is what I want for the gameplay in this part. I don't care about the rest, it was the only flaw in the first game, but unfortunately that's a very big flaw…

Need help here with some honest answers, i've been on the edge with AC since the start i just can't get myself to buy it..Is there anyone here who can convince me to buy this?
ps. no renting..

It's an awesome game… for about 1-2 hours until you realize that you're doing the same thing over, and over, and over, and over again and you loose interest. If you can find it cheap it's worth buying because it is a lot of fun to run around in a brilliantly (both graphically and physically) designed landscape. But that's basically it.

Actually, I was not even on-the-fence with this one, before. I just plain didn't want to play it. I resisted for over a year, until my friend ended up buying me a copy. Even then, I didn't play it.
I finally took a chance and played it for about an hour, and was pleasantly surprised!

Then, after playing even more, and doing a few missions in another city, and climbing the tall structures, and performing the "leap of faith", I was HOOKED!
It's actually a really great game. Great attention to detail, great atmosphere, which captures the time and setting.

It's not perfect, but pretty close. If the missions weren't so repetitive, that would've helped immensely. (and some other minor gripes here and there)

But, overall, it's still a really good game.

Oh, and PLEASE take away that highly annoying pop-up asking me where I'm from. I've clicked it maybe 10 times now and it still pops up anytime I navigate to a new page…

I really hope they change it up a bit, I know someone pointed out that ALL games are repetitive, but for some reason it was really apparent in Assassin's Creed.

I still like throwing it on here and there cause Altair is ill.

I loved this game repetitive or not. I am excited to learn more about the story.

I didn't find AC that repetitive, primarily because the freedom involved kept it at bay in my eyes. Furthermore, the unbelievable atmosphere and realistic-feeling environment felt constantly immersive. I'm sorry, but climbing up to those look-out points NEVER got boring for me. I could do just THAT for hours.

If it's in Venice, since the first game is set in Jerusalem about 1100 BC, and the setting in the second one is in Venice in 1500… Altair would have to be over 400 years old… If we play as Altair……..

I think they should have it so Altair goes to China and Japan and has to fight frickin awesome ninjas. (I'm serious, I mean how awesome would that be?!!)

He'd be over 400 years old by another 2200 years … yikes! No Altair in part 2?

For the love of god, please let this game be fun, unlike the first one, talk about a snore fest, the same crap over and over and over again.

Maybe its just me, but ubisoft has really been somewhat of a letdown this gen. They make these really good looking games but they all suffer from large flaws. AC being super repetitive, Farcry 2 having way too much empty space and not a lot to do ( the gunfights are fun, but so far in between )and Prince of Persia being too easy. Not just because you can't die, but because all of the jumps and high flying balancing acts seem to feel like one long Quick Time Event like on Resident Evil 4.

Maybe AC2 will be different, but something tells me it wont be

Hopefully it will have an ending. The ending of the first one was worse than the Sopranos stupid fade to black ending with the cheesy music lol.

Well this would be a great place for an Assasins job. Venice is a hell of a labyrinth + the water everywhere. I wonder if they are able to rebuild the computer model 1:1 to reality.
I´m keen on using rapiers or florets to slice victims *muhahaha*
Assasins Creed was a merely good game but it had some teehting troubles, hope the second part is more mature 🙂

Venice would be a superb choice of venues. In addition to the sneaking mechanics of the original, they could add in swimming. And the atmosphere is built for intrigue.

The mechanics of the first game did get a little repetative after a time and I hope they mix it up a bit to add some more depth in the sequel. But the storyline was enough to keep me going and I'm totally with Ben on the high altitude, panorama shots. Breathtaking and worth a little bit of grinding to see.

Assassin's Creed is also coming to the PSP.

As is MotorStorm Arctic Edge (also PS2) and Rock Band.

FWIW The Rock Band game seems to be a clone of Amplitude/Frequency, which could be excellent.

i hated the first game, it was actually one of the worst games i ever played.

graphics were good, gameplay was smooth, scaling walls and everything of that sort was fluid,

BUT the story was garbage, free roaming? nah it wasnt cuz everything looked the same so no point of goin anyplace else, repetitive and a lot more negatives in this

all in all as a whole the game was crap. i traded it in the very next day after playing it for 3 hours.

it didnt deserve the 9s it got, it shud get a 6.5 or a 7 over 10

and i dont buy games which are lower than a 8 over 10

At 30 bux AC is an absolute must own. This game kicked off the next gen with some bautiful scenery and vivid combat scenes. Anyone who gave up after only a couple hours has missed out majorly. The weapons were slowly returned to you as you played and the fighting got better and better. I loved Thief 2 on PC and wished I could hide in the shadows in AC, but besides that this game is one of my favorites. Bring on part 2!
Knife in the back of the neck anyone?
