At first, we were a little apprehensive about a game based on Dante Alighieri's "The Divine Comedy." But after acquiring plenty of new information, and hearing from EA that it's best described as "God of War meets Dead Space in hell," we have to admit to being intrigued. And now, more details have been uncovered, courtesy of PSU .
First of all, as you can see right at the top there, the game will run at what should be a silky smooth 60 frames per second, and not surprisingly, Dante will take the form of a powerful "knight with magic powers." In the book, he's merely a human man attempting to traverse the untraversable, but that just won't do for an action-oriented video game, right? And as he is fighting to save the love of his past life, Beatrice, it makes perfect sense that EA would turn him into a knight. The next detail is interesting, because it shows that the first boss battle (you fight Death himself) takes place in Limbo, which is occupied by the faithless souls who have yet to believe in God. Yep, Limbo is the first Circle of the Nine Circles of Hell, so EA is following along accurately in that respect, and furthermore, they have an experienced artist on hand to recreate the horrendous images. It's Wayne Barlowe, who has produced Barlowe's Inferno, a collection of his images based on "The Divine Comedy." All of these represent more reasons why we're now excited to see the end result…the fact that it controls just like God of War only adds to the appeal, in our opinion.
Next up, we're hoping for an estimated release date. Although there are plenty of amazing titles on tap for 2009, something like Dante's Inferno could become one of those unexpected gems.
II hope EA releases a demo this game sound like its going to be a hit
This seems promising I am just a little miffed at the fact that they are actually using Dante as the main character and recreating him as a 6 foot muscle-bound scythe wielding bada$$. I would much have preferred to be someone traversing the same path but not Dante. Oh well I will keep my ever watchful eye on this one it is the game I am most anticipating in the near future.
…then can you still call it "Dante's Inferno?" 😉
That does make any sense now do it lol
If it was set in the world that Dante painted in his poem and stayed true to the Inferno itself just changing the character you use then yes I think you could still call it Dante's Inferno albeit you would not use Dante himself but you would be in his vision of hell. I.E. it being "Dante's" Inferno just not his voyage through the Inferno

I think it would've been cooler if they took more of a survival horror edge to the development of this game. Making it scary like Silent Hill, instead of action oriented like God of War.
That would probably put more people off from playing it, which would see worse sales than if it was a pure action game.
I can see vast amounts of gothic themed art in this game's future.
Sounds like it could be cool, definitely gonna try this one!
Without Dante it would just be Inferno or Bob's Inferno or whatever it just doesn't have the same ring to it maybe Ben Or Arnolds Inferno haha 🙂
Well, it would at least be the Inferno as imagined by Dante.
We need something to tide us over till GOW3 comes out. This game looks promising. I know PSX will keep tabs on this one for us.
Can't wait to encounter the suits at Square Enix in the 9th circle.
SPOILER ALERT—- GOD DOSNT EXIST but none the less this game looks like it has potential.
Have you played through the game called life and seen the ending for yourself? I haven't. So, no, I don't think you've given anything away.
Concept art? screenshots? C'MON SOMETHING OTHER THAN WORRRDDDSSZZZ!!!…..
It's not going to come out this year.
