If you don't subscribe to Game Informer, don't worry…we've got you covered. We know you don't want to miss out on the new God of War III details freshly unveiled in a new GI preview.

First of all, it appears that team Santa Monica is really interested in pushing the PlayStation 3; said director Stig Asmussen, "We want this to be the game that shows people what the PS3 can do." Well, it seems that machine can do a lot, and Kratos is gonna take advantage: he'll be able to do all kinds of nifty stuff, and that includes controlling those gigantic Cyclops that have been the bane of his existence since the original GoW. That's right; just sit up there and ride 'em cowboy! And you may recall the massive Titans in the two previous installments, probably saying to yourself, "damn, I wish I could play that cut-scene sequence." This time, you'll be able to do just that; Titan battles are indeed headed to this third and final installment. Kratos can control these, too, but the process of doing so reminds us of Shadow of the Colossus ; he'll have to clamber up living, breathing giants.

And as far as the bald bad-ass himself, it's natural to assume he'll be more detailed than ever before. But were you aware of the difference…? Art director Ken Feldman says the main character will be about four times more detailed in this PS3 version: "Kratos on PS2 was probably about 5,000 polygons, and now he's 20,000. We wouldn't even be able to load him on PS2." Some of Kratos' old abilities will return but of course, new ones are on the way. The developers have expanded on the available skill-set so the player can experiment with more combos and grapples, which will include using the background to your advantage. More weapons are coming, too, and we're hoping at least a few of them will be as good as the default Blades of Chaos, which have always been the weapon of choice for players. And you're going to need all the help you can get…rather than 12-15 enemies on screen at once in the PS2 versions, the team went a little nuts and will now get up to 50 on screen in the PS3 entry. …wow.

In all likelihood, God of War III won't arrive this year, but we still don't have a set estimated release date. Even so, we're totally psyched for this one and we're perfectly willing to give Sony Santa Monica as much time as they need to make it masterful.

Until they announce a definitive release date, I am still going to hold out hope for this to make it out this year. It's still plenty far away for holiday '09.

I have that mag in front of me right now. Great article and screen shots. I love that Kratos is keeping the scar that Zeus gave him in the last installment. There are very few details on the new weapons but it does entice you with what is mentioned.

I love the part about the "Mini sexgame"
Qoute; "So I can say that there is a lot of planning going on in the sex minigame right now". ;end qoute.

There is also a really interesting part of the article called "The Evolving Kill". They mention that they are looking at the use of the sixaxis controller to mimic ripping and pulling actions. SICK!

I can not wait for this game. I will, but I am stoked to have it coming out. I hope it lives up to all of the hype, but from what I have read, it looks like it will and then some!

Yanking the controller to rip someone's guts out would be epic.

can't wait for this game! i really hope they get it done for a christmas release this year.

on a more cynical, tongue-firmly-in-cheek note from what i've read this game might break the 7/10 barrier with certain reveiwers who live on the edge….. 😉

lol its ok, though u think I'm confused I'm not in fact the 2 words get mixed up often literally is used without exaggeration or in a more serious tone while figuratively is an exaggerated word like its a figure of speech. where u thought i was being metaphoric in a way, I was speaking the exact truth in my opinion, ill say it again even though yes we will not know exactly how it turns out until release, but I'm sure it won't fall short of the most amazing game play ever!
God of War 3 will be amazing, literally!
as a big fan of the series and the ps3' capabilities I'm sure GOW3 will live up to my deepest fantasies!

GoW III official website is live. They are even accepting pre-orders for the game :D. I saw the trailer running at 1080, it's amazing. I must say that GoW 1 sold me the PS2, GoW 2 was even more awesome and the PSP spinoff was incredible, a technical achievement for a handheld. Looking forward for GoWIII. Probably it will get a 7 from certain magazine for whatever obscure reason, while "Hello kitty Adventures" on Wii gets a solid 8 😀

graphically, its hard to say which console looks better. Its more like preference. What PS3 can excel is its ability to add more AI in the game. We'll see how 50 enemies work. Imagine something like GTA V with a street full of 100+ pedestrians, a gun battle in that scene will be epic. Lets hope GOW3 can show the developers what PS3 can really do.
