If you're a huge fan of sandbox style games, than you probably had a blast in 2008 with the likes of Grand Theft Auto IV and Saints Row 2 . We won't see another installment in either franchise in 2009, but EA has you covered…and don't you dare "go against the family."

EA has revealed that The Godfather II will release on April 7 in North America and a few days later on April 10 in Europe. It will be available for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC, and although we had expected it to arrive this month (February 24), at least it's good to have a new official launch date. You know, the original really wasn't bad , and it appears that EA has worked hard to iron out the kinks and refine the formula for this sequel. Said executive producer, Hunter Smith:

"The Godfather II is taking the open-world genre in an entirely new direction by combining the furious combat of acting like a mobster, with the strategic gameplay of thinking like a Don. As game makers, when we looked at what lies at the heart of the Godfather universe, we discovered a game focused around organized crime. The Corleones and all the other families schemed and fought to gain access and control of different territories, so that they could control the flow of money in those areas. This underlying battle cloaked secrecy is what The Godfather II and mafia life is all about, and we wanted players to be in control as a Don and make those strategic decisions to lead their families to success."

This could be a solid open-world, freedom-oriented action title, and we urge you to consider a purchase if you're a fan of the genre. EA has given us some quality productions in the past few months and it seems as if they're really kicking things into high gear this generation. Let's hope The Godfather II lives up to expectations.

EA are just scared of Killzone 2,SFIV and Resi5 hence pushed it to April. It's a good move, cause Godfather II hasn't received any February release hype. The sales woulda been poor if it was released this month.

this game needs more advertising if they plan on selling anything, i have barely heard of anything about this game, just seems no one really cares for it.

I was so hyped for this when it was announced, but after screen shots an trailers ive been dreadfully disapointed, it looks nothing like The Godfather Part II, I dont see how they couldnt get Al Pacino as Michael Corleone but get him for that Scareface (Film Remake) game!

Whats worse is it doesnt even look like TG2, It looks more like Miami Vice!!!!

Like most of you, I'm not too excited about this game, but nevertheless, I'm glad it's being pushed back to an April release date. I mean, this month is KINDA booked (!), and I don't want to see another game log-jam like this past holiday season. No one had enough money for the simultaneous hit titles released, so consequently, all of them took a sales hit.

Anyhow the delay might give them time to polish it up a bit.
It seems Sony may be learning from previous marketing mistakes…

It releases on my birthday, If I don't get it, some people may find a horse head in there bed…ALthough I found the first godfather kind of slow and boring to get in to, say maybe I won't really care, although the way things are going, I'll probably still be trying to finish Fallout 3 and Killzone 2 by April….

Hahaha, CH1N00K… Yeah, I'm still not finished with Fallout 3. It's terrific, but I've already seen the ending when my son completed it, so it's taken some of the fun out of it. But with so many endings, I'm still plugging away at it.

I'm not as upset as some about the move away from the movie-based characters in Godfather II. I just want an old-school gangster game that really represents next-gen potential. The last one was kinda fun for about 2 hours, while I was busy trying to take over my first family. After that, it got REALLY tasky, and repetitive. Hopefully, this one doesn't suck like that. I'm very skeptical, though…
