It was one of the few games on the Jaguar that everyone wanted to play and since then, there have been multiple installments in the long-running series. But Sega wants to get back to square one, use the same name, and present a next-gen entry to an all-new audience.
Announced at a Sega press event in London today, prepare to welcome Aliens vs. Predator (only a working title, but you get the gist), which marks the triumphant return of developer Rebellion. A decade ago, they created a game with this same title; a game Sega is now calling "a legendary title that went on to define an entire generation of multiplayer gaming." Details on this new project are a little hazy, but from what we can gather, it's definitely part of the Aliens and AvP series of games. Furthermore, Sega has "adjusted" the release of any other titles in the Aliens franchise to allow the team to focus heavily on this new AvP. Said CEO of Sega West, Naoya Tsurumi:
"By adjusting the release of our other Aliens titles to accommodate [Aliens vs. Predator], SEGA will ensure that every title lives up to the high expectations of Aliens and AvP fans."
Okay, so now all we're waiting on is an official announcement, so we can have an actual title and some early concrete details. Rebellion should be able to provide gamers with the good ol' AvP entertainment they've been missing for quite a while, and yes, we're assuming it's coming to multiple platforms. Stay tuned for more info as it becomes available.
i'm ok with a game i just hope to god they dont do another movie both were apalling!!
I'd rather just have Alien 5, wouldnt mind a Predetor 3 either.
HAHA, I just watched AVPR last night, that was the worst movie ever made.
If they ever make another Alien(s) they better make it something else that isn't with Ridley. She finally needs to be laid to rest because it has gotten ridiculous. Those stories are about the aliens not her…
dude thats like screaming for a metal gear solid game without solid snake, or a tomb raider without Lara Croft, Lt Ellen Ripley is an awsome character and Sigourney Weaver does an outstanding job.
and for someone who says they know the alien movies should also know that a large part of the alien movies and universe is Ripleys struggle with the said aliens and her struggle to stop them from reaching earth and up until alien resurrection that threat was weyland utani. i hope they do an alien5 and i also hope they use Ripley.
If they make it anything like the AvP PC games then they have a sure fire hit. Those were some of the best FPS games to hit the market at that time and scary as hell playing through the marine campaign. See if it will be able to compete with Left 4 Dead. That game rocks beyond belief.
What ever happened to that side-scrolling arcade game, that game was awesome?
AvP2 for pc is still one of my all time favorite FPS's
still don't know what was more epic the first level as a marine where you got swarmed by aliens after coming out of their hive and you had to make it to your exit before being devistated or sneaking around as the facehugger trying to find a host
mine too.. always thought it should of come to a console!
3 games in one, like you say.. marine? crapping yourself or a cloaked Pred spearing people? or a facehugger looking for a host… damn good game.
I hope they make it a new story rather than a straight port of AvP1.. because AvP2 was so much better.
im pretty sure the side scrolling game in the arcades at that time was called SPACE GUN..a bit like operation wolf !!?? ..details are a little hazy. i know i completed it cost me a fortune…or am i going way back lol
Dangit! This means they are delaying the Colonial Marines Aliens game. I was really really looking forward to seeing if it was any good!
there are a slew of games that have you as a space marine of some sort killing aliens of some other sort, always will be. being the aliens is where it's at
i remember loving both of those, especially the pc version playing as the alien and the predator, the rts version really wasn't my thing at all. I can't remember liking anything in a fps more than running up the walls and onto the ceiling like a spooked cat. except maybe the portal gun, hmm… cool idea, what if the two were combined somehow?
@ advent child
Darn I too was looking forward to that game, it had a release date of i think the end of 09 to beginning of 2010. We'll see i guess. Hopefully will be good. The movies were ok, but not as good as they could've been.
wasnt ubi and gearbox doing the colonial marines game?
Ah your right Gearbox is responsible for the Colonial Marines game, but I am pretty sure they are under Sega
oh, i see. cheers.

AvP on the Jaguar FTW!
I loved the AvP PC games. I grew up on both of them. All your base are belong to me!
HAHA
Hey isnt that the win cheat for Warcraft3? hahahaha
I've got the old cartridge for my Jaguar, but it's been a long time since played this one.
And after reading Ben's comments, I just went to play it for the memories, but I forgot I packed it away last week to free a some of my jacks, for my upcoming PS3 & 360 purchaces…
DAMN, damn, damn, I want somebody to make at least, a 25-jack switching unit!!!!!
My favorite moment of awful voice acting was in the this game for Jaguar, now I won't knock the game because it was awesome for it's time, almost revolutionary as an FPS but it's at the very beginning when you see a dead marine and your dude goes "What on Earth gotta hold of this guy?" It was the biggest vocal fail in the history of gaming.
