Although God of War III may not make it this year, we might get something similar from EA. Now, before you start groaning, you should recall some of EA's latest productions; both Dead Space and Mirror's Edge were excellent titles. So perhaps they can do something decent in the straight-up action category.

As CVG reports, British magazine PSM3 has a full 10-page feature preview of Dante's Inferno , a game that was only recently announced. It appears that EA describes the promising title as "Dead Space meets God of War in hell," and the article further states that "button-for-button the controls are identical to [God of War's]." The entire premise feels familiar, in fact: enemies will drop health and magic orbs, there will be QTEs and combos with both light and heavy attacks, and yeah, you even open chests by "holding circle." But of course, the topic of the storyline is vastly different, as EA says it's "altogether more unpleasant" (um, that should be the understatement of the century) as we'll be following the main character's trip through Dante's Inferno. If you're not aware, it's the first part of Dante Alighieri's ancient classic, "The Divine Comedy," which featured a character's adventure through Hell (Inferno), Purgatory, and finally, Heaven. If you've read it and understood it, we give you respect, if you've read it in the original Italian…well, you're just freaky smart. Unless you're Italian.

Anyway, we don't doubt that EA will ignore about 99% of that novel, but that's only because they'll have to. It almost seems wrong to reduce that book to something so basic (and let's not forget, Dante never "fought" anything), but it's still a cool idea. Right?

Intriguing concept, hope it works out. I loved me some God of War and Dead Space.

"Dead Space Meets God Of War In Hell"

If this is correct the game will be a truly GOTY contender

"let's not forget, Dante never "fought" anything"

I never assumed we would play as Dante anyway. My guess is a character that will venture through a world "inspired" by Dante's Inferno.

how can you mix a slow paced horror game with a rediculously fast paced chop everything up with your swords on chains game?

I prefer Resi5 to dead space n mirror's edge wasn't all that.
Here's hopin' this is great, cause everything about it sounds strange to be a game.

BTW the Mirror's Edge Theme is one of the best on ps3 thus far, download it.

Coooooooool. Sweet, awesome.

But I hope it doesn't end up feeling like a God of War rip-off – in the combat side 🙁

God I hope this game is good. I cannot wait for this to drop. Fingers crossed for it being what they envision and not what happened to Haze.

I wasn't interested in this game when it was announced but with a combination of those to games, I'm now intrigued.

Been watching this since first news broke and I'm amped. I'm assuming we will play some sort of fallen soul who battles his way through the 9 circles of hell. Let's just hope Satan is a bit more, umm… challenging, than he was in that section of the Divine Comedy.

i just have a feeling this is gonna turn out something like mirrors edge or legendary, it gets all the hype and then when you play it… huge disapointment, but ill stay tuined in for reviews and stuff, who knows it might turn out to be a good game

I don't remember there being any hype about Legendary. I never heard of it until a week before it came out.

And my only complaint with Mirror's Edge is that it was short. But at least there is DLC for it.

when i first heard about this title from the vga's, i was a little bit skeptical just cuz i couldn't image how they can make a game based on one of the most talked about novels in literature, but after hearing about that it's a mix between Dead Space and GOW, well i can't help but feel a little excited now. can't wait!

This sounds like a good game. If they pull it off it could be a hit.
Although I have yet to pick up Dead Space of Mirrors Edge, I have played them and been impressed.

Dead Space was a game so good I couldn't really play anything else until I finished it. It also was the first game that scared the beejeezus out of me, and that was cool! EA is making a very bold statement.
