When we first heard about the idea, we were a little skeptical. We freely admit that. Crossover games don't always fare well, and as this one was scheduled to launch alongside some of the biggest blockbusters of 2008, we didn't hold out much hope for success.

But we're men. We can admit when we've been proven wrong. Today, Midway has proudly announced that they've shipped a grand total of about 1.8 million copies of Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe worldwide. Said Ed Boon, Mortal Kombat co-founder and creative director:

"Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe was the result of countless hours of hard work by many people, and seeing the game surpass the million-seller plateau makes it worth all the effort. We're already hard at work on our next version of Mortal Kombat, and look forward to being able to reveal more details in the future."

We don't have any sales numbers just yet, but the number shipped is impressive, and Midway also reports that – believe it or not – this was "the most pre-ordered MK title in company history." Furthermore, it seems that over 3.6 million matches have already been played online…and that's just counting the PS3. Well, it appears they really did nab both sets of loyal fans with this one, and if you haven't yet given it a try, the game is available everywhere, and a few copies of the special Kollector's Edition are still floating around, too. For more info, head on over to the game's official site, WorldsCollide.com .  And hey, let's hear more about that new MK, too!

I will not buy it, till they bring back the Blood and real fatalities…

Agreed Mortal Kombat just isn't right with out blood and gore and some disturbing Fatalities. That is what captured my interest way back in the Genesis SNES days and that is what I am still waiting for. No 3D, Fighting styles, or weapons. Just good ol' brutal bloody fighting with fatalities.

What the hell are you talking about?!
there is blood in the game and its worth it.
granted some characters, (I did say SOME) fatalities are dumbed down its a great game and thats a dumb reason to miss out on it.
Bet hey its your lost not mine.

Never said I would not play it which I have done. I just didn't like it as much as the good ol' 2D original Mortal Kombat's. I loved how over the top they were and that is what appealed to me. This entry to the series does take back a lot of lost elements of the old franchise and it makes those elements work 10-fold what they used to but all in all this is a dumbed down T-rated Mortal Kombat and that is a sad detour from the classics of old from the franchise. If they could make a strictly MK game and rate it M again and make it over the top and hold onto the elements that were brought back in this iteration I will be of overwhelming support, but as it stands this is not a true MK IMO and I won't make the purchase but I will play it via rental or other means.

I used to be big mortal combat person so this is great news indeed.

With this success they will grow confidence and make the next ones even more stellar.

I got this game day one. Rarely play it. Fatalites suck big time (might as well not even had any). I also don't play with the DC charas (unless im doing it for the trophies). All the online matches i have done i have played MK charas. The new moves the MK charas got is nice.

Midway would have sold so many more games, had they made it an all MK game, which they should have done. Let's hope this next MK game will be just that, an MK game.

I also would like to see the numbers of matches played online where which is being used more. MK or DC. My bet would be on MK. I mean that's what i bought the game for anyway, was MK.

game looks shoddy. just hold out for SFIV, or if you're desperate, buy SCIV for £18 off play. bargain.

well that's kool for midway.. but if i buy this game it won't be until the game is about 30 bucks.. the MK franchise has falled off so bad and not having blood in the game just reasures you how bad the game has falled off…

I still remember when it was revolutionary to murder your opponent and see blood, ah the good old days and the good old controversy. I think Arnold gave this a good review but it's a fail for me when u mess with the best parts of the classics (or pit 2 unrelated sets of characters against each other)

Regardless of the many of bad things in this game there are a few good ones.

1. The fighting is back to the good old days of MK 2.

2. It seems like all the MK charas have new special moves which is nice.

I would love to see a brand new MK game (only MK) full of new and old charas with new moves and improved old ones.

Ed Boon said they're hard at work on the next mk…given mk's history ,the care bears might be involved

Oh yeah, in the mean time if you wanna play as your fave MK character, just build him/her in Soul Calibur IV. I've made almost all of them.

Not so much, but if you make Raiden with Cervantes style you get the electricity and superman move 🙂

Soul Calibur IV sux IMO
VF5 is better and that sux to.
Tekken destroys them both.
but SF will own all.

i was tempted to get this but then the release date of SFIV held me back, VF5 is the worst example of character development ive ever seen, there all so taky, I'm still waiting for Tekken 6 if im honest.

"next version"??? So are they doing another special edition (mk vs. that guy over there) or are they going to pull their head out of their ass and make it 2D with original finishers (friendships, babalities, etc.)?
