Sometimes, it's difficult to trust those so-called "inside sources." But bear in mind that this new revelation only concerns the possibility of a PlayStation 3 port of the original Mass Effect ; it doesn't necessarily impact future installments.

Not long ago, we told you about how an EA insider had told SecondStoryGamer that Mass Effect and any upcoming sequels will be coming to the PS3 , thereby causing us to use the headline you see for that article. However, the Videogaming247 blog spoke with another EA representative who said, "The rumor regarding Mass Effect being developed for PS3 is inaccurate. Hope that helps." Well, it doesn't really help, especially when he refused to comment at all about future iterations in the series. To us, this sounds like EA is taking a page from Sony's policy book; the "we don't comment on rumor and speculation," or "we don't announce something until there's something to announce." Furthermore, it may mean that EA wants to wait to announce the deal at the Game Developer Conference next month, which would make plenty of sense. But that whole "inaccurate" statement isn't helping matters, especially with the sheer amount of discussion and debate flying around the Internet.

For our part, we believe there won't be a port of the original – we just think it's too late for that – but the future Mass Effect titles will indeed come to the PS3. What do you think?

what would be fantastic is if they did port it but bundled it with the sequel as one game.

I've heard about future installments of ME coming to the ps3, but not the first one.

will we NEED a port of the original, to be able to fully understand and appreciate future sequels?

I would agree ben, seeing as they make more money on ps3 it would be foolish not to have it go multiplatform. They probably want to make the announcement in some important event to give it some hype.

Using the word "inaccurate" is very interesting. What is inaccurate? That there is a PS3 port coming? That the announcement would be made in March? That the port would be coming this Summer? Looks like the rep chose his/her words very carefully

They should just port it, get their money and get it over with.

Well said Buckeyestar, going along with what you said i believe it may not be "Mass Effect" but something along the lines of "Mass Effect(insert subtitle)" and voila mass effect is on the PS3 ūüôā

if they can't port the original game, then there is no need. i cant just play a game, when i dont know what it's all about.

that's the reason why i laughed at 360 fans, when they were madly requesting for MGS4.
playing a game not from the initial installment is
insane. period.
if EA cant port the first installment, they can go to blazes. i can never re-buy a 360 to know the story.

You only play games for the story and not the gameplay? A good game will always be interesting whether you've played the previous installments or not. As for your statements(plural) on Obama, I'll believe it when I see it.

hes saying, that most sequels are story driven.
and almost all, have elements of the previous installments in them.

to FULLY appreciate a sequel, u need to at least know the story line of the original.

honestly, those who played MGS4, i feel sorry for you guys, because there is no way they would have loved it as much as sum1 who has played every MGS ever made.

The first was published by Microsoft, so a port was highly unlikely. I can't see 2 or 3 going over either.

How well would they do when the majority of people wouldn't have played the first? Or, if they had it was more likely on PC than 360.

And, if it was PC they played on, would they move to the PS3 to play 2 and 3? I don't think so. At least, not in the case of the majority.

I think an analogy could be made with MGS. How well would 4 do when not a lot played previous ones? 2 didn't do very well on Xbox to demonstrate this in a previous generation.

The point of it being quite a while isn't all that relevant. Look at Oblivion and BioShock.

the same way a lot of 360 players had a ps2 back in the day, you might be able to say the same about mass effect 2 and 3, although its slightly different since this a minor jump btween two now gen consoles compared to old gen and new gen for mgs4. If they are to bring it over to the ps3, id suggest they start with the first one

Mass Effect may not be ported to PS3 but something like a Mass Effect Complete Edition might. I really think a version of the 1st Mass Effect is going to be made for the PS3.

Biowares dragon age is coming out on ps3 now and it used to be a 360 and pc exclusive so I see no reason why they wouldn't do the same with Mass Effect 2 unless there are some Microsoft royalties involved

I don't believe Dragon age was ever a 360 and pc exclusive. It was only for PC but then recently announced for consoles.

I never really had a grip on the concept of the game so I don't know what to think. I hope it isn't too story centric so we don't feel like were starting a book on page 100.

Actually, story centric is exactly what it is. It isn't for the gameplay that makes it. Its the storyline. The squad elements can be found better in other games. Its getting to know the characters, the interaction.

Besides, PS3 games don't sell all that well. That might come across as a flaming comment, but hey, ye haven't had one game sell over 5 million. Thats pretty bad. Thats not saying ye don't have games, well game that deserved the honour of a lot more than that.

but yet, we are steadily coming back.

and how many 360 games have?
halo?…gears?

i dont think ive ever heard any 360 fanboy, talk about anything BUT those 2 games. which is the real sad thing.

It would be a smart move for EA to port ME to PS3 if they intend to bring 2 and 3 over. If they don't though, I'd still buy the sequels. I for one don't need the first installments to enjoy a game. In fact if the developer is banking on the success of the first game to sell a sequel over puting out a quality game with a "2" on the end, then their games aren't for me. As with any 360 port, I'll wait for the reviews.

Thats fine in something where the story isn't all that important. Something like Mass Effect? I'd treat someone who decided to skip the first metal gear solid as a moron. While Mass Effect isn't quite as bad as that, its bad enough.
