EA: Red Alert 3: Ultimate Edition Heads To PS3 This March

It has been an interesting journey for the PlayStation 3 version of Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3 . At first, it was rumored to be flat-out canceled, then it was merely delayed, and now, we finally get the announcement that the Ultimate Edition is scheduled to release on the PS3 this march.

According to Joystiq, the PS3 version boasts additional features that distances itself from the Xbox 360 and PC versions, and you can now pre-order if you're a strategy buff. And if you're wondering how a traditionally PC-oriented franchise will work on a console, EA explains that players will use the "Command Stick 2.0 interface," which is an "intuitive control system designed for players of various skills." EA elaborated on this in the following statement:

"The Command Stick is the name for our control system on the consoles. The first version was in Kane's Wrath, which shipped last year in June on Xbox 360. As you'll notice in some screenshots, like the one [below] here, the interface allows you to pull up your queues with the trigger, while using the right stick to call out commands on the fly, from anywhere on the battlefield. You can manage individual units, create control groups, check on build progress from any structure, etc. from any point on the map at any time. … Red Alert 3 represents the latest step forward in that progress."

Back in the late '90s, it would've been laughable to presume that the revered C&C franchise would arrive on a console, but these days, things have changed significantly. And although PS3 owners clearly had to wait a bit longer for Red Alert 3 , it's always good to know they're getting the best version available. Stay tuned for an exact release date.

Don't you remember that the first C&C was on the ps1, I mean sure it sucked but it was there, and i'm pretty sure you can download it from the psn

But RTS's and consoles don't mix. Unless the offer a separate interface for keyboard and mouse use. That would be sweet.

That seems to be the case. I have no idea why though. I think they can tailor it to work with a controller but they just haven't hit the right note as of yet.

up till now, there havnt been many RTS games on console i dont think.

i havnt played any of the C&C on 360 yet.

seems like this one mite be rather cool.

but please god….no K/M support.

you would think they would offer a mouse and keyboard option, since the controls on the 360 version are atrocious

been waitin a longggg time for this, i like that C&C is on consoles, its easier to play with friends that way. since the ps3 allows keyboard n mouse use its a shame that only one game has ever took that option up ( UT3 ) this would of been a nice addition if this was the case, here's hoping that some DLC might allow this feature, tho its not the end of the world if not. looks like this might be a game that will tear me off killzone 2!

RTS and consoles just don't mix. They're just not designed to be used with sticks. The original C&C, and Warcraft 2 on PS1 were atrocious. Not to mention Starcraft on the N64. Goblin Commander was about the only one I played that it actually played well. Give it keyboard and mouse options and then it'll be worth getting. But I'll stick with my PC version.

My sediments exactly. PS3 supports K/M out of the box. Games, such as these, should offer the option out of the box.

i am against K/M support for RTS games on console.

it gives such players a HUGE advantage over us handheld controller players. in both accuracy and response time. such things are KEY factors when playing RTS or FPS games.

im just against K/M support for games in general.
if u want to play with a keyboard and mouse, then buy a PC?

AND ON A OFF TOPIC NOTE: capcom will have the demo for RE5 on psn Feb. 2nd, with this and the killzone 2 demo for those who can swallow their pride and pre order from the "evil" known as gamestop, this should pass some time up

Yeah, Ive been trying to come to terms with that. It's almost too tempting. Also, a part of me just wants to be awestruck with the full retail title.

Strategy fails for me but any time a PS3 version gets the superior treatment I'm all for it.

I thought the same thing until I bought my iMac. We all know those things can't hang too well with the latest greatest FPS's(If there are any for Macs) but I got Age Of Empires for the first time and I was HOOKED!

I can't hate on strategy, I was hooked on the old Warcrafts just like every veteran, but I had to move on. I'm a strange character because I can't hang with strategy RPGs either but I love the typical "strategy" involved in a basic JRPG. But if I get in a mood for interactive history (love history) I might check out Age of Empires.

Nice to see the PS3 making strides forward with this RTS title… this may get people to invest in more mice and keyboards too… Nice one, but with a limited budget, will look Killzone 2 first though!

There's only 2 rts games for consoles I'm looking forward to and they are Halo Wars and Stormrise. Age of Empires and Total War series are 2 of my favorite rts games on the PC and I am really looking forward to what the developers of these 2 games are gonna deliver for home consoles.

Ensemble Studios -> Age of Empires -> Halo Wars

The Creative Assembly -> Total War series -> Stormrise

If anyone is gonna make a GREAT Halo RTS its gonna be Ensemble. Its just a shame that they are closing their doors upon completion…

As long as this game has keyboard and mouse support I'm all for it. I just hate playing RTS's without those easy quick to use controls.

On the topic of RTS games I can't wait to see what Big Huge Games have been working on. Rise of Nations is my favorite RTS.
