We've all had our beefs with Peter Molyneux over the past few years – Fable was fun, but it didn't actually turn out to be the "greatest RPG of all time" – but even he must be considered an industry professional.
According to a recent interview with GamesIndustry.biz, Molyneux has stepped forward to praise what he believes to be "the most creative innovation of 2008 in the Creative and Business International Network's review of the creative economy:" LittleBigPlanet . Now, first of all, we would like to remind you that PSXE also awarded LBP our "Most Original" title of 2008 , and it's good to know we're not the only ones. Said Molyneux:
"LittleBigPlanet has outstanding creative vision. It's from a British start-up studio and is one of the defining titles on Japan's Sony PS3."
Not sure why he pointed out that Media Molecule is a British studio, but maybe that means something. Anyway, most will agree that LBP was a momentous achievement, and we only wish the developers were rewarded with more sales. 1.3 million copies sold isn't bad, certainly, but this is the type of title that really deserved a number at least double that amount, and we'd like to think the sales will continue to increase. After all, this is one game that won't show its age all that easily, and although it may rise slowly, it should still remain relevant for a very long time.

Yeah, wonder if mm is working on lbp psp.
Well Molyneux's British so he probably likes that it has been such a key part of Sony's (as he says, "Japan's Sony") end of year push. Plus the MM founders are ex-Lionhead and are based in the same town as he is (according to Wikipedia), giving him a personal connection to them.
LBP really is fantastic and has easily cemented its place as one of my favourite games of last year.
I am happy that the big shots are acknowledging the creativity of LBP, I played it non-stop for the first couple weeks that I bought it and I never got bored. In fact, if it wasn't for the stellar line-up this last holiday season I probably would still be playing it non-stop.
*raises hands in a jump-shot motion*
COUNT IT!
lol, what is that from?
lol. Family Guy.
LBP is a great game and deserves the praise it gets. Hopefully as word of mouth spreads it will really kick the sales up.
this is my second favourite game of this gen. it deserves much better sales .
Not as arrogant as i thought.

He's not really arrogant. It's just that he underdelivers.
He's not arrogant; he's ambitious. His reach exceeds his grasp. He bites off more than he can chew.
If he were an egotist, his games would all be "Peter Molyneux's Fable" or the like.
We need people like Molyneux (and Will Wright and Richard Garriott and Tim Schafer) in the business, even though their games aren't everything they're chalked up to be.

LBP is awesome and does deserve more sales but 1.3 million is good compared to the travesty that is the Valkyria Chronicles sales… That game definitely deserves waay more sales.
"Japan's Sony PS3"? What the hell does that mean? The man's a doubletalker and a loudmouth.
I agree, it's to late to hop on the bandwagon when everyone agrees that the game is creative.
Gabe Newell I like you to meet your long lost brother,Peter Molyneux.
Ben, you have a badass job. This is now my homepage.
I'm new to posting on forums other than programming; there is no place else I would like to start posting on my free time than on everything Playstation.
Good for you man/woman. Get off his $&*%^
Yeah it was pretty gay but had to say it douche.
Gay? in which way?
He just says what we all (I suppose) think. . Ben really has a cool job. .

Thanks. 🙂
Ignore APE. He's kind of like the village idiot around here. In real life, we'd give him pieces of velvet to stroke in the corner of his padded cell…it's charming, in a way.
i agree
Ben, forgive the 733t, but that post was a million win.

Both LBP and Fable 2 were made in guilford
i was about to say it's just ahead of mirror's edge with that award. then i realised that it's from british guys. yeah man. LBP is good and the only problem with mirror's edge is the fustratingness and the lack of gameplay time. the Time trials kinda make up for that though.
but LBP is fine for that.

I dont understand why games like fable & fallout are called rpg's since your basically playing a free role and can do almost anything you want and you cirtainly not playing a specific characters story.
Id say "playing a free role" is still "role playing."
IN FACT that is the whole point of a role-playing game. JRPGs are no more role-playing games than are shooters, action games, or even sports games.
Pretending to be Nathan Hale, Niko Belic, or Brett Favre is "playing a role" as much as is pretending to be Cloud or Tidus or Ashe, if you don't have any control over what the character chooses to do and say, if you can't control the direction the story takes.
Hell, GTA: San Andreas is MUCH more of an RPG than any JRPG I've ever played.
p.s. I know it sounds like I'm down on JRPGs, but I'm really not. I own something like fifteen of them. I love adventure games.

Now it's sad i still don't have my copy of LBP.
"…and we'd like to think the sales will continue to increase. After all, this is one game that won't show its age all that easily, and although it may rise slowly, it should still remain relevant for a very long time."
I agree; and I've been saying the same exact thing, especially with all the user-generated content.
As for P.M., I'm not sure if you know this; but the head of Media Molecule is a former Lionhead employee, who created Ragdoll Kung Fu when he was an employee there. So, I'm sure they still have a connection.
LBp is a epic game, i loved it it was fun to create and play levels by fellow gamers. My 4 yr old loves the game so much he has his own sackboy doll that someone made him.
LBP looks amazing, although I havent played it yet. My fear is that it'll turn out to be more like a toy rather than a fun game to play. Do you guys think I'd enjoy it even if I have no interest in developing my own levels?
I did, give it a rental man. I'm 27 and the game is goofy fun like being a kid again. I guess it's a bit like a toy but an adult toy (WOAH that came out wrong!) Just make sure you have online cuz that's where all the crazy fun levels are.
lbp was a great game, definitely a change of pace. Anyone get the metal gear level pack? if not get it adds so much more to the game.
I completely agree, LBP is fantastic. Yeah it's to bad about the sales, but they could alwasy pick up when it goes Platinum (or is it Best Sellers in the US). Hopefully by then PS3 will have a much larger fan base.
The very fact that the game WILL go platinum/greatest hits in all three major regions refutes any contention that it has disappointing sales.
p.s. Silent Hill 2 rules.
p.p.s. And where are the next batch of Greatest Hits, anyway? At least a dozen games have qualified, not counting sports titles and other games that won't be given that status (like RB).
