We've been hearing a lot about the upcoming playable demo for Resident Evil 5 , but it didn't arrive late last year as we had assumed. Instead, it seems we'll get it in the first week of February.
According to PS3Fanboy, the demo will hit the PlayStation Store on February 5, and boast two different levels and three separate types of cooperative-based gameplay. You can choose between AI support, two-player split-screen on one PS3 and a two-player mode via the PlayStation Network. Now, here's the best part: say you were a huge fan of RE4 (and really, who wasn't?), and you're not so keen on the idea of the more action-oriented control scheme Capcom implemented in RE5. Well, this demo will give you the choice of the RE4 controls or the new "Action" controls, so at the very least, you can do a little comparin' and contrastin'. The "Action" setup should make the game feel more like a next-gen third-person shooter; perhaps something along the lines of MGS4 or Gears of War 2 . However, survival/horror purists may want to stick with what they had in RE4, even though that control scheme represented a significant change over the old-fashioned "up is forward" controls in old RE titles. But hey, you can't satisfy everyone all the time, and we remain 100% convinced that Capcom will deliver a kick-ass gem come March.
So mark your calendars for February 5, as that's the day you'll want to log on to the Network and download this guaranteed-to-be-popular demo. It's your first taste of the final product, and you gotta love sweet little interactive teasers.

Thanks for the update Ben, looking forward to trying split-screen and the new control scheme.
On another note, I can't add an avatar to my profile or update it.
Eh speaking of local splitscreen, anyone else unhappy with how games like RE5 have been treating it recently? I can't remember if I saw a shot of it here or elsewhere, but similar to COD:WaW, it trims the screen size for both players and sets both screens a bit off center (affected by one's TV size I suppose), with black bars filling in the rest.
Trying to play WaW with a friend was an exercise in frustration (even with a 32'' hdtv), and seems it might be the same with RE5 unless you have a TV 40'' or up.
I would have thought that the jp demo would have come before but no complaints from me.
The 360 is getting this demo a week earlier. I remember a few people on this site claiming that M$ wouldn't pay for timed exclusivity of a demo. Anyone here still think that?
I'm assuming, however, that you have to be a Gold subscriber to get the demo earlier. Anyone know for sure?

Yea, Gold members/Live has got some "exclusive" access to the RE5 demo a week before anyone else – which is standard for silver members, but also the reason why PSN isn't getting it till the 5th.
I was a believer.
@Dragon: M$ is still getting to release it early, the fact that it is for the Gold members just means they are using it as a tool to get more signups, ya gotta keep an eye open for those exploitations to understand how M$ works.

I hate this… Feb 5th is RE 5 demo…but that is when Killzone 2 demo is VALID. SAME DAY?! Arg!
I thought the Killzone2 demo was going to be available on Feb. 2nd.
if you look at the bottom of the scratch off section for the demo code, it says code valid 2/5/2009-2/26/2009. So yea… big day for PSN download…that means big day for PSN DELAY and possibly crash 🙁
Damn, i'm very excited for this game! This is the first game that I'll buy for this year!
i'm so excited for this game, can't wait like the idea that you can use the re4 controls very smart by capcom.
Even capcom is trying to neutralize KZ 2, sad… i still blame GG for pitting themselves against rez 5
KZ2 and RE4 are 2 entirely different games played in entirely different perspectives. They aren't trying to compete. The only thing in common is them both being shooters.
games will always compete against each other even if they're from completely different genres, ask media molecule or insomniac, they'll tell you its true

Resident Evil is not a "shooter" series. It's survival/horror. Ever since RE4 it's much more similar to a TPS, but it still isn't quite the same.

I want kz2 so bad and now re5 demo is coming out the same day oh wow talking about excitement.
i miss the creepy mansions, and big underground labs. =[
running around one end to get half of a key, then running to a completely different spot that i never would have thought of, to get the other half, by somehow completing a puzzle that if i fail, will get me killed.
those were the days =[
why dont any DEVs want to go back to their roots?
WOW I CANT WAIT!
My calander is already marked for February 5th as my birthday so hopefully my PS3 will be back from Sony by then and I can start playing the demo on the 7th or 8th when the craziness dies down.
already played this demo long time ago @ x360
What you want,a cookie ?
Don't think I'll ever be using the "Action" option. No "Gears of Evil" for me thank you.

I think you mean "Resident of War"…

Yeah, been waiting for this one. Can they really mess up Resident Evil 5?
