We all have to admit that certain high-definition games this generation have spoiled us into thinking that all titles should natively support the maximum 1080p resolution. Then we act all disappointed when a game is only 720p, regardless of how good it looks ('cough' Resistance 2 'cough').
Therefore, when we learned Killzone 2 would only natively support 720p, we did feel a bit let down; after all, this was supposed to be the most incredible-looking shooter ever, and we would only get the minimum high-definition for native support? But then we got a look at it…and we stopped caring so much. Even so, there's more good news from the Guerilla camp, in the form of QA Manager Seb Downie (and apparently, primary PR guy) issuing this post on the official PlayStation forums:
"I got a message from one of our code gurus today about me talking about the 720p stuff I was spewing incorrectly and told me that we now support 1080i natively too. Glad they got that in too. Now rejoice!"
Sweeeet. Of course, like we just said, you didn't have to worry about how the game looks to begin with, but this is just more icing on the cake. And at this point, any extra icing is almost gonna make this cake too sweet to eat, as if that's a bad thing. Hell, give 'em a little more time, and maybe it'll natively support 1080p; who knows? Let's just say that regardless of resolution, Killzone 2 absolutely needs to be on your must-buy list for 2009, because if it's not… There's something wrong with you.
