Every time we have to report on the current status of the Street Fighter IV release date, we have numerous obstacles to contend with.
First of all, there's the whole issue about whether or not the date in question applies to both Japan and North America. Then you have to make sure they're talking about the home console version of the game, and not the arcade version. But now, we're hoping this is a finalized launch date: on its official forums, Capcom has revealed that the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions of Street Fighter IV will release in the U.S. on February 17 and in Europe three days later on the 20th. There's a PC port on the way as well, but Capcom made no mention of it in this update. Fighting fans got the chance to revel in the flashy, fast-paced goodness of Soul Calibur IV earlier this year, but old-school aficionados are going to want SFIV; they're going to hope that it can rejuvenate a seriously ailing franchise. Of course, the fighting genre in general is suffering these days, just because its relative simplicity is something the industry is leaving behind. Like it or not.
Anyway, we'd like to think that this is the last SFIV release date story we have to write, and that February 17 and February 20 are concrete, written-in-stone launches. If so, we can finally turn our attention fully to any new media and info. Yay!
