If you've seen "The Dark Knight" recently, you may have seen a preview for the upcoming action flick, "Watchmen." It's based on Alan Moore's graphic novel and as an interesting change of pace, we're not here to announce the now-requisite video game to go along with the movie. Instead, according to GameSpot, Deadline Games is planning to bring us a series of episodic installments that will act as prequels to the movie. Hmm…that just might work!
The episodes will be available on the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC, and you will follow along with the capable vigilante duo of Rorschach and Nite Owl. This will prepare you for the introduction of "Watchmen" when it arrives in theaters in 2009, which makes us believe that if we take the time to play these brief episodes, we'll know a great deal more about the story. We don't yet have an official release date for the first episode of "Watchmen," but we're hoping to discover more information as 2008 moves on. Downloadable content is becoming more and more important as this new generation rolls forward, and some developers are seeking to take advantage. These games are described as "action/brawlers," and after seeing the preview for the movie, we figure that makes sense.
Perhaps these individual series entries will offer a better experience than one full-on video game adaptation, but it's hard to tell at this point. What we're hoping is that each episode leaves you wanting more, and by the time you've worked your way through the series, you'll come into the movie fully pumped. We imagine that's the plan of the developer and Warner Bros. as well. "Watchmen" is scheduled to impress movie-going crowds on March 6, 2009.
