After many rumors reporting a variety of release dates, Sony has finally confirmed to CVG that LittleBigPlanet will arrive in September 2008. We had expected to see it before then – rumors of a spring or summer release appeared to dominate a few weeks ago – but at least it'll be hitting this year.

Sony hinted at a fall release during their CES presentation this week when producer Kyle Shubel mentioned the scheduled 2008 timeline for this appealing platformer. Initially, the game was scheduled for the end of 2007 along with Sony's ambitious online initiative, PlayStation Home. However, both were quickly pushed into 2008, although Home still holds to a tentative spring release. This September announcement confirms an earlier report from "insiders" that Media Molecule was shooting for a September launch in the UK, so mark your calendars, PS3 owners. You'll soon be constructing your very own levels and conquering others by teaming up with some online buddies; this game could be reason #481 to own a PS3.

Furthermore, according to Kotaku, the developers dropped hints at CES regarding possible downloadable content for LittleBigPlanet . This would be the perfect title to take advantage of that, too, considering you could add just about any object to the construction gameplay. We might even see new characters and creatures as well. Whenever the team issues more details on this, we'll be sure to let you know, but in the meantime, we repeat- LittleBigPlanet for September.
