According to the Mercury News, BioWare is hard at work on a long-awaited sequel: Jade Empire 2 . The original RPG was a smash success and received widespread critical acclaim – as most BioWare productions do – so this announcement should make most fans very happy.
Evidently, the author of the story "saw code" for the sequel, and it's definitely coming for the Xbox 360. The first title was a Xbox exclusive, but now that EA has purchased BioWare, it's more than likely we'll be seeing JE2 on the PlayStation 3 as well. Back in 2005, Jade Empire was one of the best games of the year; it sported real-time hand-to-hand combat in a setting that is a far cry from the science fiction world of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic . It was ancient Asia, where warriors had powerful abilities and mystical arts, and the player could not only choose a character and style, he could choose the Way of the Open Palm or the Way of the Closed Fist. Yes, obviously, one is considered "good" and the other "bad," but you would gain different skills based on which path you followed.
It was an excellent game despite its flaws, so news of a sequel brightens our day. Normally, we don't like EA buying everything they can see, but in this case, it should mean PS3 owners get a shot at Jade Empire 2 . It's called "maximizing profit potential," remember…and EA does that better than anybody.
