RPG fans were probably excited to learn that Bandai Namco has another entry in the long-running Tales series planned, even though we're still a little hazy on the details. Announced at last weekend's Jump Festa event in Japan, Tales of Vesperia is definitely in the works, and the official site already has a trailer for the new title!
The video can be viewed in high-definition 720p resolution, which certainly implies Vesperia will be for the PS3 or Xbox 360 (or both). The developers were even good enough to provide us with some gameplay footage, here – just click the purple buttons to select your resolution and watch – and it appears to be vintage Tales . That's good news for fans, yes? We've got a very warm, cel-shaded look going on, and we also figure out that franchise veteran Yoshito Higuchi is involved in the Vesperia project. Higuchi was director of the GameCube's Tales of Symphonia and the PS2's Tales of the Abyss , and he'll be producer and chief director of this new installment.
Oddly enough, despite the lack of significant details, this trailer is pretty accomplished. We almost have to assume that Tales of Vesperia is further along in the development process than we may have anticipated, so perhaps all the pertinent info is right around the corner…
