One of the big reasons why the PlayStation 3 was the debut home console for Unreal Tournament 3 is Sony's open network. Epic said Sony "embraced user-generated content," which is why they really wanted to tap into the PS3's capabilities in that area. And now, according to a recent post over at the official UT3 forums by Epic VP Mark Rein, the first user-created content is now available!
It's a nice little holiday gift for everyone: it's called DM-Shrine, it's free, it's user-created, and you can pick it up at Epic's FileFront site . Created by a 23-year-old graphic designer from Nottingham, England, DM-Shrine is described as a "great little map that's perfect for those close-quarters, 2-6 player matches that keep your adrenaline pumping from beginning to end." Rein pointed out that many of the maps in UT3 are designed for use by a lot of players, so a smaller, "more intimate" map like this one adds some great contrast. It's the first piece of content developed by a gamer, but we can guarantee it won't be the last.
If you're having a blast with Unreal Tournament 3 and want another map, make sure to check out DM-Shrine. You have no excuse to pass on it; it's free, and it's kinda historical. The very first piece of user-generated content! Exciting, yes?
