First, we heard Epic might be considering the possibility of offering split-screen co-op for the PS3 version of Unreal Tournament 3 , but their ambition to enhance the game doesn't end there. According to PSU, Epic's lead level designer, Jim Brown, is thinking about PlayStation Home, and how they might take advantage of those new features.
The possibilities presented by a service like Home are numerous and far-reaching, and it's not surprising that Epic has recognized the potential. Here's what Brown had to say when asked if Epic plans to utilize Home for anything UT3-related in the future-
"There appears to be some great options for trophies, achievements, matchmaking, demos, and distribution of user-made content, just to name a few. We're excited to see how things turn out, but it's a little too early to really anticipate how far we'll be able to go with it."
Brown also commented on a European release date, but would only say PAL gamers can expect it "early in the New Year." As for a whole bunch of UT3 stuff implemented with Home, it does seem very possible that Epic is leaning in that direction. Of course, we understand the whole "wait and see" approach, but we know for a fact that this is one development team that listens to its fans. If Home goes over well, expect to see Epic and Home become fast friends.
