While Eidos isn't exactly in the most pleasant of thoughts with thousands of gamers out there, including us, the bottom line is that we can't skip on reporting about one of the world's most recognizable franchises. That said, the first bit of news regarding Tomb Raider Underworld is beginning to hit the waves. TR Underworld is the next game in the long-running franchise starring Lara Croft. European magazine PLAY was lucky enough to get the first scoop on the game.
The game will follow-up on the events of Tomb Raider Legend, and will take place in more than one locale. Her journeys will focus on the Mayan calendar and the six lost days which are directly linked to the gates of the Underworld. So yes, the locales will feature realistic touches, based on actual features of the location. Note the screenshot to the right, that's actual Mayan architecture
Underworld marks Crystal Dynamics' third Tomb Raider game, but the first true next-generation title. And based on some of the screenshots leaked, it looks like much of the exploration will be done in tombs, which is a relief. Furthermore, screenshots indicate the ability to target two separate targets with each hand, when wielding two pistols. And melee combat looks to be a new focus added for the series.
Pick up an issue of PLAY to get the full scoop on what Tomb Raider Underworld will feature. As far as a release date, a Q4 2008 release is planned.
