When David Jaffe left Sony to start his own development studio (Eat Sleep Play), we have to admit…we were a touch concerned about future Santa Monica titles like God of War III . We have no doubt the team he left behind is more then competent, but when you lose someone like Jaffe, it definitely has an impact. And, as it turns out, Jaffe would very much like to be involved in development for God of War III .
According to an interview he gave to GameDaily.biz, Jaffe clarified that while Sony no longer signs his paychecks, he "remains on great terms with the Santa Monica team." He went on to elaborate, and it seems the team may have been left with a lot more of Jaffe than we may have realized…
"I can tell you that I have, what I consider, a phenomenal story for God of War III. When I was a Sony employee, we were exploring going down that road, and it probably was so big that it would have had to have been broken up into three parts and the actual franchise wouldn't come to an end until we had the third one made on PS3. There are certainly ideas for gameplay and for story, but I'm just not in that position anymore. In the best case scenario, I can freeze time, have 72 hours in a day and I could magically beam myself over to Santa Monica and back home to San Diego in time for dinner, then yeah, I would, if they would have me, I'd love to be involved with that title."
Of course, Jaffe has his own projects now, so you won't be seeing his name on the credits for GoWIII. However, he reminds everyone that he left a slew of notes behind; notes he pitched to Sony regarding the next GoW entry before he left. He has no idea how those notes will be treated in his absence, but hey, his advice still lingers at Santa Monica. …can that possibly be a bad thing?
