Update: Thankfully, this rumor has been debunked by Ubisoft, who presented everyone with a portion of the official press release in their forums. It clearly states that they're "developing Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six® Vegas 2 for next-generation consoles and PC." So yes, that should include the PS3. 'whew'
Earlier this year, Ubisoft's Rainbow Six Vegas was a beacon of quality in a vast wasteland of poor multiplatform PS3 ports. The publisher proved once again they can make a great PS3 version with Assassin's Creed , so of course, everyone just assumed they'd bring Rainbow Six Vegas 2 to Sony's next-gen platform as well. Um…not so fast.
As many observant gamers have already learned, if you take a look at the game information over at Ubisoft's official website, you'll see something worrisome: only the Xbox 360 and PC are listed as platforms for Vegas 2 . Now, they're showing a March 2008 release date – which may or may not be true – and we're hoping to learn the truth of things before the end of the year. It wouldn't seem logical for Ubisoft to ignore PS3 owners, considering they haven't so far this generation and basically have no reason to do so. But then again, this could be one of those times when Microsoft plopped down a big ol' chunk of cash to secure exclusivity for a massively popular franchise. Perhaps only time will tell.
On the other hand, it could just be a mistake, or maybe the PS3 version of Rainbow Six Vegas 2 isn't scheduled to arrive until later. We don't know why this would mean the PS3 wouldn't be listed amongst the targeted platforms, but we're just guessing here. As soon as we find out something concrete, we'll be sure to let you know.
