Update: Ubisoft is aware of the issues at hand and are working on a possible fix. If you want your voice to be heard, head over to Ubisoft's forums and tell them exactly what problems you've experienced. This will – hopefully – let them whip something up all the faster.
While there's no doubt – in our minds, anyway – that Assassin's Creed is one of the best games of the year, some unfortunate technical issues have come to light over the past couple of days. These problems appear widespread and quite frustrating in nature, so hopefully, Ubisoft is listening and is willing to provide an official response of some kind.
Many gamers around the Internet are reporting frequent freezing issues when playing the game, as evidenced by multiple threads in the official PlayStation forums, GameSpot's message boards, and according to several e-mails sent to us at PSXE. As far as we can tell, both the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions may have their fair share of problems, but it seems there is one type of complaint per user- for those playing the PS3 version, we hear a lot of talk about system crashes while loading. The game will go to load a new stage or reload a saved game, and just freeze up solid. For Xbox 360 owners, the glitches sound a bit more serious, as we've heard about freezes during actual gameplay and a failure to record objectives and achievements. For our part, we have had problems with the game freezing when trying to load, and considering the lengthy load times, this has gotten pretty annoying.
We're not sure if this is something Ubisoft can fix, or if there's an abnormal number of glitchy games on store shelves. We would, however, like a response to these incidents, as they're putting a damper on an otherwise awesome experience.
