Unfortunately, PS3 owners have been disappointed to find that several multiplatform games have failed to deliver equivalent experiences on Sony's new console. Developers have had difficulty adapting to the hardware, and as a result, we get titles like Madden 08 , which ran poorly on the PS3. Therefore, when big multiplat titles like Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare come out, we can't help but worry…
However, based on early reviews, there's no cause for concern. This is Activision and Infinity Ward, not EA, after all, and the highly anticipated shooter that releases this week appears to play identically on the PS3 and Xbox 360. It was confirmed yesterday that the PS3 version really does support the maximum 1080p resolution, and after more feedback from a variety of critical sources, the results are clear: CoD4 is basically the same experience on either the PS3 or 360. In fact, some have even said the game might run a touch better on Sony's system, although we can't say that for a fact until we get our hands on the game.
IGN has already awarded the PS3 version of the game with a 9.4, and we can probably expect similar results from other sources. This is one gigantic holiday title, so it's a darn good thing the PS3 gets an equal-quality version. With more and more developers warming up to the complicated system, perhaps all these examples of poor multiplatform versions are already a thing of the past.
