Whenever there's a multiplatform release of a truly gigantic title, everyone has very similar questions, and one of them always is: which version is the best? In this day and age, most multiplat versions are pretty darn similar, but sometimes, a game is specifically designed for one console and ported to another…which usually causes a distinct difference in quality. However, when it comes to developers building a game for multiple platforms from the ground up, each version usually turns out pretty well.
This apparently goes double for Unreal Tournament 3 , which is scheduled for the PC and – feasibly – PS3 later on this year. Epic's Mark Rein recently popped up in the official UT forums and made the following encouraging statement-
"I was playing the PS3 build for a few hours tonight and it is really, really fantastic. Amazingly smooth and solid. I think you PS3 users are in for a huge treat with UT3."
Well, that's certainly good news. We've all been wondering if the team had run into some serious trouble designing this game for the PS3, due to the earlier news that this version might not make it for 2007. However, Epic has been striving to hit their goal of a November or December release for the PS3 version of Unreal Tournament 3 , and now it seems they might just hit it… After all, why would Rein be making such glowing comments if Epic hit a snag in their development for the PS3? Could an official release date be forthcoming…? Stay tuned.
