If you enjoyed Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children (we sure did), than pay attention: Sony Pictures Entertainment and Capcom have announced plans to produce a full-length CGI movie based on the legendary Resident Evil (or Biohazard , as it's known in Japan) series. According to QJ.net, "Biohazard: Degeneration" is in the works, and will be the first feature CG animation movie based on the blockbuster franchise. We all know about the sub-par "Resident Evil" movies, and this is a step in a new – and hopefully better – direction.
Of course, just because they weren't all that great doesn't mean they weren't popular. Paul Anderson's productions garnered plenty of attention and popularity, as each "Resident Evil" movie managed to rake in over $100 million at the box office. On the other hand, these same fans, some of whom may not be gamers, might not recognize "Biohazard" as "Resident Evil." Will this negatively impact the movie, or will it even matter? This is a CG animation film, remember, and sometimes, these do quite well. "Beowulf," for example, will be in theaters soon, and that may act as a good measuring stick for how well "Biohazard: Degeneration" will fare.
We don't have any details regarding voice actors or an estimated release date, but we should see it at the movies some time next year.
