Square-Enix Gets Lord Of Vermillion Patent

We've already had a few big announcements this year from Square-Enix, including the unveiling of their new franchise, The Last Remnant . But "Squeenix" may have a few more surprises up their sleeve before the year is out; one of which may involve the announcement of Lord of Vermillion , a title recently registered with the Japanese patent office.

Evidently, the veteran RPG publisher successfully registered the trademark on September 27, but that's the only information we have at this time. But while we have no idea what platforms the game may be for, or when we can expect details on the project, we do have history on our side. Old-school gamers may remember the old Sword of Vermilion , which was developed by Sega and released on the Mega Drive way back in 1989. Therefore, there is some precedent here, even though Sega and Square-Enix are two different companies…obviously. The only other difference is in the spelling- there are two "l"s in the newly registered Lord of Vermillion , while there was only one in Sega's Sword of Vermilion . Yeah, it probably means nothing, but hey, it's worth mentioning.

We'll have to wait and see what Square-Enix is planning, and whether or not it has any connection to Sega's old game. We'd also like to know which platform(s) Lord of Vermillion is headed to, because that's kinda important. As soon as we hear anything, we'll be sure to let you know.
