Hideo Kojima and Metal Gear Solid are as inseparable as peanut butter and jelly, Jack and Jill, and prostitutes and politicians. So when Kojima announced the fourth installment in the legendary series would be his last at this year's E3, everyone was a little stunned and a lot disappointed. You just can't have MGS without this guy!

However, during a recent phone interview with Next-Gen Biz, Konami Digital Entertainment's new marketing vice-president, Anthony Crouts, gave fans a reason to lift their chins from their chests and smile. It appears that, even though Kojima may not be "directly involved" with another MGS game – which some fans refuse to believe, anyway – Kojima will "always be involved in the

“I’m sure he’s never going to let go of Metal Gear Solid—trust me. [Snake's] a big character, so as a franchise I think he'll always hold it near and dear to his heart," said Crouts of Kojima. ”In one capacity or another, he will always be involved in the Metal Gear franchise.”

Of course, we all remember when Kojima made the same announcement before the launch of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater , which means Konami was able to keep him around for MGS4. But his role may change significantly for future entries in the esteemed series, and next year's game may also mark the end of Snake as the main character. Watching those trailers, you're looking at an aging – yet still very effective – individual, who may have reached the breaking point… It's hard to imagine MGS without Snake or Kojima, but Konami seems pretty confident the latter bad-ass dude will stay on board ("in one capacity or another") for quite some time.
