Update: It seems Total Video Games says that EA has confirmed that Mercenaries 2: World in Flames is indeed delayed until 2008. In a statement to TVG, a UK representative at EA confirmed that while they still don't have an exact date, "[we] can confirm it will be next year."
According to the European website CVG (Computer and Video Games) and GameSpot, it appears that we may be facing another relatively high-profile delay. Mercenaries 2: World in Flames might not hit its previously announced 2007 holidays release date.
CVG first cited unnamed sources in their claim, which said the highly anticipated free-roving action title for the PS2, PS3, Xbox 360, and PC would be delayed until 2008. Developer Pandemic has sided with mega-publisher EA this time around, and we've heard nothing but good things so far…but this delay does put a crimp in the holiday season, provided it's actually true. It may not be as big a title as Grand Theft Auto IV – and there are plenty of great games still scheduled for this year – but it'd still be disappointing to miss out on Mercs 2 this Christmas.
GameSpot couldn't get anything concrete out of a Pandemic representative, who said- "We've made no announcements at this time regarding a final release date for Mercenaries 2: World in Flames." But to us, that almost sounds like an admission…if the rumor was dead flat wrong, they probably would've said so. So this seems like a very real and unfortunate possibility, but we'll let you know when/if they step up and make an official clarification.
