Fans of rally style racing games have something to look forward to during the next-gen, as today Codemasters announced the development of Colin McRae Rally '07, exclusively for next-gen platforms (such as the PlayStation 3).
There hasn't been a fresh game in the McRae franchise in nearly two years, a hiatus that Codemasters has used to conjure up a new direction for their beloved series. "The all-new Colin McRae Rally will be a real evolution for the series and offer a massive variety of off-road events," Gavin Raeburn, the game's executive producer says, "It's being designed to offer a totally accessible, high-speed and adrenalin-fuelled ride for newcomers to the series, yet race hardened McRae players will be able to delve under the bonnet and immerse themselves in the most challenging of competitions."
Colin McRae Rally '07 will include traditional point-to-point rally races, as well as a diverse selection of extreme off-road competitions, including hill climb and rally cross events. Although rally racing is traditionally a time-attack style affair, CMR '07 will also include events where players race against multiple cars on the track. Of course, the game will feature official cars an tracks based on real locations aroun the globe.
Online multiplayer modes are also promised.
Colin McRae Rally '07 likely won't be displayed in playable form during E3 next week, since it is so early in the game's development, but we'll check out Codemasters' booth anyway to see what they're up to. Until then, check out a couple early screenshots .
