It's a long ways off but at least we have a new date.
After having been rumored to debut in 2016, the "Uncharted" movie ran into numerous snags and has since been delayed. But now, according to Variety , Sony says the anticipated action/adventure film will release on June 30, 2017.
This project has been in the works for about 6 years now (it was announced in 2009) and it has gone through multiple changes, including a bunch of different directors and writers. Right now, we have no idea who's playing the lead role of Nathan Drake, as Chris Pratt is one of several who has passed, and Seth Rogan and Evan Gold ("Superbad") have declined to handle the script. It's hard to believe we can have a date when nothing appears to be nailed down.
But maybe the specific details will start arriving in the coming months. And don't forget about the special Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection set to release this fall; Sony says there are "buckets more to come" concerning that package, too.
I am curious to see who gets the Drake roll.
The reason being is because in order for a movie to have a successful run in the theater, it has to be its own thing while also being adapted from its source game. No video game movie has been good so far because they don't know how to balance those two things out very well. ND is all about perfection, and of course they are going to make sure the movie is reflective of that.
You speak as if the studios had ever cared for the source material or its creators.
I'm interested insofar as I'm just super curious about who's playing what role.
The Uncharted movie already exists, it's called Indiana Jones…Let's not sully (heh) one of the greatest gaming franchises with a movie that has almost no chance of living up to expectations.
well thats interesting considering like you said that nothing really seems to be nained down so why thye have a release date it beyond me unless they know something we don't thats the only thing.
happy gaming
