Hey, remember that third-person Call of Duty adventure that was supposedly in the works at Sledgehammer Games?
Well, not only was it a very real project, but it was a fully-realized project. In a recent Eurogamer interview , Sledgehammer co-founder Michael Condrey revealed the details of the game in question, which was code-named "Fog of War."
It was set during the Vietnam War in Cambodia and featured an Uncharted -like style of gameplay:
"In your head you instantly can imagine an Uncharted style of game, but done in the lore of Call of Duty. You can see that. We built a prototype and it was cool. It was a true, gritty, Apocalypse Now take on Vietnam in an interactive way. We had a 15-minute demo, and there were some great moments."
Co-founder Glen Schofield said they selected Vietnam "because it was scary and gritty." The pacing of the game would've been slower than the twitch-iness of Call of Duty , even though it would've retained the franchise tag. Unfortunately, the project got scrapped when Activision tapped Sledgehammer to help finish Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 .
Personally, I would've vastly preferred to see "Fog of War" come to fruition.
Awwww cmon. This actually interested me. I'm not a fan of 3rd person shooters as a genre I'd run out and play everyday, but I do like historical stuff and that lost war is PERFECT for a game.
Bring it back please, give me a reason to play a call of duty.
does this mean they are actually going ot make the game or what is this suppose to be
happy gaming
I would have played this. It sounds like a good single player game. Perfect for people like me who don't play online. COD's campaigns are always an afterthought.
