Good thing they didn't try to start this craze during the winter.

In an effort to raise money and awareness for ALS – also known as Lou Gehrig's Disease – it seems like everyone on the planet has accepted the Ice Bucket Challenge.

Latest on the list are a bunch of PlayStation employees, led by SCEA president and CEO Shawn Layden. In the video below, our ol' buddy Ratchet dumps a bucket of ice water on Layden's head and his fellow PlayStation execs follow suit. Afterward, Layden nominated Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick to take the Ice Bucket Challenge, as well as GameStop president Tony Bartel and PlayStation Europe boss Jim Ryan. Nominees have 24 hours to complete the challenge, by the way.

They're hardly the only video game peeps who have accepted the challenge. Xbox head honcho Phil Spencer accepted Minecraft creator Markus "Notch" Persson's challenge; the latter also nominated Gears of War creator Cliff Bleszinski and Activision's Kotick. Kotick and CliffyB haven't completed the challenge yet, but they should!

Now, maybe whoever came up with this idea can admit that they got it from "Flashdance." Seriously, we all know it's true.

I think this is a great way of spreading awareness and on top of all that if they all accept this challenge it will be a sight to see.

I say you and Ben do it, not together cause that would be weird or do I won't judge, hehehe. I'd summon the presence of highlander but he don't care for us no more. But yeah, you definitely do it and Ben cause we need to see some activity on the PSX youtube channel.

Ben and I are in separate states so there's no chance of that lol.

Last I heard Highlander became a Final Fantasy summon that is really hard to get.

You can only get to it with a gameshark hack that lets you strap a golden chocobo to each leg.

What about actually donating? What good is raising awareness if all anybody does is get wet? They'll forget all this in a few weeks. The idea was to raise awareness to get donations. Not to get everybody drenched. Donating $100 was to be more appealing. This has gotten so our of hand, people are just drenching themselves and challenging others. Not even mentioning ALS. Nor donating. Now Lady Gaga and Charlie Sheen get it. $10K each. Charlie challenged 2.5 Men people to actually donate.

Individually, you are right. Just getting soaked does very little as an individual. However, feeding the viral hashtag train is what has made this beast earn so many dollahs. So it does serve a purpose to a point.

I think people should at least mention something about ALS when they do the challenge. Maybe say something about what it does to people or how many are affected. At least tell people where they can learn more or donate to help the cause.
