Ready for a new MK?

Fighting fanatics have been anxiously anticipating the next Mortal Kombat entry, and franchise creator Ed Boon has been teasing a fresh announcement.

Boon has shown off an "MK X" logo – insinuating that "Mortal Kombat X" might be in the works – and now, as revealed at Reddit , we've got a leaked poster that unofficially confirms a new project: It shows a seriously busted spine, the basic MK logo, and the tagline, "Who's Next?" There's a countdown as well; it'll end on Monday, June 2, so that's probably when we'll get all the pertinent details.

MK enjoyed quite the resurgence the previous generation, which hardcore fans of the classic franchise definitely appreciated. What say we kick off the new generation in fine style…?

I only played a little bit of the last one, but it was cool. Kinda wish they had stuck with realistic characters instead of the comicy ones though.

it's been that way for a great many years. Ever since they went 3D graphics.

This, also Steve Ritchie's voice as Shao Khan.

I know, I've had some PS2 and Dreamcast ones and stuff but as a whole I wish the series had moved in a realistic direction since it was one of the first to video capture real people. I think it'd make the violence suitably shocking.

yah, World. Same. I think it had something to do with John Tobias and Ed Boon splitting way back then.
I believe Ed had more of a comic-bookish interest where Tobias went for realism and a more mythical-tribal take.

actually, I looked it up. It was the other way around. John Tobias was into comic book art. he even came back and did comic pages for one of the more recent MK games to tell it's story.

So I have no idea why they went the route they did.
Thing is, they did try a realistic take of MK in 3D with a game called War Gods. It was a lot like an MK but with digitized textures on 3D models.

Interesting. I remember War Gods in the arcade that game was pretty damn fun, I think it went to N64 later.

YEAH!!! That trailer better end in a fatal fashion.

Cause fatality? Yeah that was bad.

Yes please I'd be pretty stoked for it.

MK on PS3 bored me to death while playing with my fighting group. NOT ALONE, BUT WITH FRIENDS. That's not meant to happen.

Please let it make me like MK more.

I doubt it would fundamentally change

SWEET!
they should make this like MK deception.
your normal MK battle table, with multiple death traps in each arena.
the side games like their twist on tetris, and chess.
then the main meat of the game, the konquest mode of deception, it was so cool playing as a new character wandering around the world of MK meeting each of the characters and learning new skills.

Even though I don't go back to it, other than the odd time I have a friend over, I quite enjoyed the last rendition. So a new one would be welcome.

I've been an MK fan since playing them on the genesis, even though they were ridiculously hard back then. Out of the original trilogy the only one I managed to beat was the first one, I could never defeat that bugger Shao Kahn.
I've bought every MK from Deadly Alliance through to the reboot with the exception of the bloodless MK vs DC.
