Man, doesn't feel right without expecting another Need for Speed .

As part of a recent report to investors (as cited by GameSpot ), Electronic Arts has confirmed that for the first time since 2001, the iconic Need for Speed franchise will skip a year.

Developer Ghost Games is working on a new installment but they need more time, so it won't be ready until 2015. The team is being given an "extended development window," and studio general manager Marcus Nilsson said they're "already deep in development:"

"We are already deep in development on our next game and want to make this promise to you: we will listen to you. We're going to give you the game you've been asking for. It will be the game you deserve, but to do that will take us some time."

Nilsson further described the new NFS as "highly innovative" and that sounds encouraging. Not sure just how "innovative" you can get with a racing game but hey, we look forward to any fresh ambition.

YES! I read elsewhere that "customisation, car culture and personal expression" are key developmental tenets, and I quite like that idea. Although, the same source indicates that it's going to be another socially-inclined racer, which is a bit of a buzzkill, but not much you can do about it. I'll keep an eye out for it, but I'm more interested in Project Cars and GT7 right now, and still hopeful for R* to announce a new Midnight Club.

Sigh,I love need for speed, but I feel like it's turning into another sonic type game. Sonic was great back then, but now there are too many different entries,it kinda lost track of what it is, and a good formula. Need for speed was about customizing the crap out of cars, driving around racing people, getting cash, winning their cars etc. Now I don't even know what it is,like need for speed shift I remember was being compared to Gran turismo. Maybe, I am selfish, but they should go back to hard core customization and racing that is were need for speed really shined.

So I just got a wheel today, anyone recommend anything non-simulator that has a view inside the car? Wish Burnout did 🙁 Don't remember if the Motorstorms do.

Some great ones are The Grid , Midnight Club: Los Angeles and Need for Speed: Shift 2. Shift is a sim but not in an overbearing way. You could also try Test Drive Unlimited 2. Not as up to par as the others in terms of cockpit view, it looks a little cheesy in some cars, but it's a pretty fun game overall

great, so your dropping the stupid autolog system, removing the slow sluggish weighted car controls, and even better ditching the NFS name and FINALLY giving us the burnout paradise sequel the industry has been screaming for years for!

man that is one game that needs fresh new ideas just like COD and arguable battlefield since after BF4 so this is some gud news after alot mixed news this week so far ad from last week too

Thank God the series needs a break. i haven't even gotten around to the last two need for speed games. now if we can only get a break from battlefield, assassins creed and call of duty

"get a break from battlefield, assassins creed and call of duty"? Good luck with that one. As long as you have the 50+ million sheep out there buying those games for the name alone, you better settle in for a long winter.

Personally I wish they'd keep Autolog but go back to the Hot Pursuit version, skip the car tuning because all you have to do is put in the most expensive parts most of the time, and cannibalize 90% of Paradise. Oh, and leave the police chases but make them city chases, for the most part.
For me, the best entries were Hot Pursuit 2 for the PS2 and Most Wanted for the PS3.

Just my thoughts.

Open map Need For Speed Underground 3 with modification options like in Need For Speed Underground 2. That it is all and i will be soooooo happy 🙂

Dammit I spent more time (successfully) fine-tuning cars in underground 2 than I did in GT5.

Balancing downforce and top speed for each type of race, tuning the torque curve to be more forgiving for drifting events, tuning the suspension for the right balance of stability and cornering G force, nitro burn rates and individual gear ratios for optimal drag times.

Partly because it was easy to test those changes in NFS:U2. Suspension tuning was like black magic in GT5, and the parameters for LSD were so counter-intuitive, Initial Torque? Goddammit Pagani Zonda R!!! what does it take to make you behave accelerating out of a corner? And I couldn't tweak torque output at different RPM like I could in U2. Aero settings were more restrictive in GT5 as well.
