Final Fantasy VII Concert Will Tell The Game’s Story Via Music

If I lived in Japan, I'd be going.

According to a Siliconera report , Square Enix will host a Final Fantasy VII concert in Tokyo this summer. The venue: Suntory Hall in the city's Akasaka district.

The exact date is June 21, and it'll be the first of the Game Symphony Japan concert series. Well, that makes sense; may as well lead with arguably the most popular Japanese video game in history, right? Nobuo Uematsu will serve as the executive music adviser for this concert tour, and the FFVII performance will be conducted by Kenichi Shimura. It should be a star-studded night for avid fans of the franchise, that's for sure!

The idea is to recreate the epic game's narrative through music, which sounds awesome . Ticket prices range from 6,500 yen to 10,000 yen ($64 – $98) and I say it'd be worth every penny. Maybe if they sell out, it'll be more evidence that a FFVII remake would work .

I bet that will be a great show. About 5-6 years ago there was a concert here in Detroit that was nothing but FF music and it was fantastic.

I would much rather prefer a FF8 concert which a lot of fans would agree has the best music from the franchise.

FFVIII <3
They are all great. 8 in particular was original as hell. Fisherman's Horizon really has power over my mood.

That makes two of us, bro. Any song from FF8 gives me goosebumps especially the song from ballad garden. To this day FF8 is still my favorite RPG n_n.

FF VIII soundtrack to me sounds like a remixed version of FF VII's. Am I the only one that sees that?

I say that in confidence because I played and beat FF VII from start to finish well over 20 times, and I have the soundtrack memorized very well. As I was playing FF VIII, the songs just constantly reminded me of FF VII's.

Having played a number of songs from both entries on piano and gone to the Distant Worlds concert in Toronto, as well as owning the Distant Worlds CDs and one for each FFVII and FFVIII, I don't see the semblance between the two games.

Both have beautiful writing, though. It is understandable that you would find similarities, though, Nas. Both were written by Nobuo Uematsu.

I'm glad to see this game still lives on, even nearly 20 years later. It's my personal favourite video game of all time and an absolute masterpiece in gaming history.

I wish I was able to go, but alas…it is what it is.
