Assassin’s Creed Is Easily Ubisoft’s Most Popular Franchise

What launched early on during the previous generation has become Ubisoft's biggest franchise of all time.

Ubisoft updated their Facts & Figures page to reveal overall sales numbers for each of their franchises.

This includes popular, long-running IPs such as Splinter Cell (30 million), Prince of Persia (20 million) and Far Cry (18 million). But by far the most successful has been the vaunted Assassin's Creed series, which has moved over 73 million units globally thus far. Way behind in second place is Just Dance with 48 million copies sold. You may also notice that Driver has sold 19 million to date; I say we could really use a next-gen Driver installment.

And how Petz has sold more than the likes of Far Cry is beyond me, but whatever.

So the question is how long and how often can they squeeze it for all it's worth?

With the quality level of the typical Ubisoft product, in this case I say "let'em earn their cash". I've slowly and steadily become an Ubisoft fan with each new game I've played from them. We don't need to buy each new installment anyways (please note I've not bought the last couple of AC games).

Ubisoft is one of the good guys.

I'll count them good guys when they make Blood Dragon a full game.

Not surprising. They advertise it out the wazoo, they've released at least one game every year for the last five, and ten games altogether, counting the portable entries. They've kept it in the public consciousness and kept the quality high (in general). Easy to see why it's so popular.

I think it's kinda telling that their next core franchise has less than half the total sales though… it seems as though they've really focussed on AC, almost to the exclusion of everything else. And now it's going to happen all over again with Watch Dogs, and we'll scarcely hear a peep about Far Cry, Ghost Recon, Rainbow Six, Prince of Persia and goodness knows what else, even if they do continue to make them…

Assassin's Creed games are not games because the gameplay sucks.
They are more like vacation packages to the past.

They are vacation packages *as well*. But man, isn't entering a fantastic world party of most good gaming experiences nowadays?
I know it is for me… Currently enjoying the heck out of Far Cry 3!

Amen I like playing for the experience and all da feels their artists give me (music, presentation etc).

If I want gameplay I whip out arcade sticks and go fighter. Deep and evolving gameplay forever.

Far Cry 3 is a vacation package in of it self. Add surround speakers to the mix and one can probably live in Far Cry 3 for life lol … =P

honestly doesn't surprise me and does now makes sense that they want to put one out every year but i guess i am yet to see a noticeable decline in quality as they seem to be really gud at making them pritty decent games. and the fact that they basically always making an AC entry to keep up with that 1 every year if they want to achieve this which tells me that they've already got probably AC 5-8 possibly going in with their dev's

happy gaming =)
