Oddworld Sequel Will Happen If New ‘n Tasty Sells 500,000

Want a new Oddworld ? Then buy the New 'n Tasty remake.

Series creator Lorne Lanning told Eurogamer that if the upcoming remake of the classic original moves 500,000 copies, we'll get that new Oddworld adventure.

Thing is, he needs around $5 million to make it happen. The project, once called the "Brutal Ballad of Fangus Klot," had been canceled, and he needs a lot of money to resurrect it. So, what about Kickstarter? Lanning's reply:

"People keep asking me, 'Why don't you Kickstart Oddworld? You could get at least $1 or $2 million.' And I'm like 'What would I do with a couple million on Kickstarter on a new Oddworld title?' Not much. I could redo Exoddus for a couple million. I could do that. But a new title, which means new characters doing new things and controls that are great – that's where the real time and expenses come from."

By the way, Exoddus was the sequel to the first title back in the original PlayStation days. The bottom line is that a conversion can be done for much less; if we're talking about a new game, built from scratch, more cash is required. If New 'n Tasty reaches 250,000, we'll receive a remake of Abe's Exoddus but I'm hoping it hits 500,000 because I've been wanting a true sequel for years.

No, Stranger's Wrath doesn't count. I want a puzzle game. New 'n Tasty will release later this year for the PlayStation 4, Wii U and PC.

hate to break it to ya bub, but ill eat my hat if this breaks 100000 units, let alone 250, let alone 500!
first of its such a old game not many remember, and two why the &^%$ would you restrict yourself to the 3 smallest markets out there!?
most PC gamers wouldnt be interested in this, nor is a keyboard and mouse ideal for it.
the wiiu, well thats been the worst selling system, coming from whats normally the best selling company!
why wouldnt you release this on last gen systems like the ps3 or 360?
just seems extremely careless to expect such a niche title like this to sell half that well, especially with the platforms its on!

which is a shame because oddworld is one of my favorite franchises ever, it was so ahead of its time, so clever and witty.
so id be such a shame to see a sequel vaporized in the history books simply because the creators were hardly rooted in common sense and realistic.

All great points for why Oddworld crumbled in the first place. Lorne Lanning makes great games, but good business sense doesn't seem to be one of his skills. I'm sure the Oddworld Quintology would be complete by now, if only they hadn't jumped to Xbox…
