Metal Gear Solid V is set in 1984 and originally, series creator Hideo Kojima wanted the game to really have that 80s feel.

According to what the MGS guru said on Twitter , MGSV was going to include an 80s filter screen effect, as inspired by Ron Howard's film, "Rush." The latter is set in the 70s and features the texture and style indicative of that decade.

So, Kojima and Co. thought about using an 80s filter in MGSV, but it turned out to be "too heavy" and slowed down the performance of the game. "So we had to take it out," finished the designer. That's too bad, though, 'cuz it could've been a super cool addition. However, I'm not sure the young'uns would've wanted it; they don't care about retro the same way we didn't care about old-fashioned stuff when we were kids. Nostalgia doesn't logically exist in the early years, you know?

Still, I at least wanted to see it.

Every game should have an 80s filter. Pretty sad that his game couldn't take on something like that though.

Actually Kojima has clarified that it wasn't a performance issue, it was just because the filter masked some of the beautiful visuals the game is going to present us with.

Oh hell no! Thankfully that didn't happen. I was born in the 80's and don't want any games with an 80's filler. That Far Cry that was released last year was terrible enough (sorry WorldEnds).

Good thing they did not proceed with this.

Blood Dragon is amazing. I'm going to assume you just don't like the 80's?

I didn't grow up in that era so it makes it harder to appreciate what others see in it. I played Far Cry 3 and absolutely loved it so I'm sure Blood Dragon is an amazing game but not through these eyes.

So you're only a fan of the years you've grown up in? I'm failing to follow the logic.

That's right or different eras altogether or mixture of eras.

Ben, I think a lot of kids growing up in the 70's and 80's cared a lot about "old fashioned-stuff". Such as the Three Stooges, Chaplin, or Looney Tunes.

Kids weren't against retro stuff back then. Not all of us.

Should have given the option to select it. Blood Dragon was really good using the effect and the 80s are great no matter what era you grew up in.
