There are plenty of hugely hyped games scheduled for 2014. Maybe all of them will totally rock.
But chances are, one of them will come up short and disappoint you. Which one is it? Which one are you hoping will be a masterpiece, but actually has the best chance of being ultimately underwhelming?
I think it might be Mad Max , currently in development at Avalanche. Despite the large and loyal following Just Cause generated, I've never quite understood the fascination. Those games were always riddled with technical issues; I suppose just because they were absurdly over-the-top, they were given a pass. But such flaws really take me out of the experience and on top of which, I was never that interested in any Just Cause world. They all seem so stark and barren, especially when compared with the likes of other sandbox titles ( Assassin's Creed , Grand Theft Auto , inFamous , etc.).
And it doesn't help that Mad Max will, almost by default, have yet another very stark environment. I don't see myself getting all that involved and despite all the hype, I have a feeling Avalanche will let a lot of people down with this one. Second on my list is actually The Order: 1886 , even though I won't be surprised if it ends up being excellent. Ready at Dawn is new to the AAA big-budget blockbuster game for consoles, and I'm concerned they've bitten off more than they can chew. The title sounds crazy ambitious, which I definitely applaud, but it can also lead to big problems.
I'd also mention Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII …if I actually thought anyone in their right minds was actually "hyped" for it.
TitanFall!?
titanfall isn't coming to ps4
The article didnt say which platform, im sure titanfall will be a ps4 title eventually
Titanfall…I mean its a MP game with Mechs, 6 vs 6 Online, and its on a weaker console….I'd say it's flopped already.
TLOU is 5 v 5 and it's fun as hell.
infamous second son
I hope not.
Sony-wise I would say The Order. It looks good and very promising for a possible new franchise, but some how my excitement for a steampunk-like game like this … I do not want to jinx it.
Hopefully they will be able to show some gameplay and weapons to give people a better idea of the feel of the game. The trailer was good.
I will say, hope I am wrong, I think the game may get delayed. Solely based on the quality of the trailer. For it to be a a really good game with the theme they are going with … I do think it would have to be some hard quality work put in to it. Not a rush job. I have no idea how long they have been working on it so… fingers crossed.
Keep playing!
I'd have to say South Park, but let's hope not.
Maybe either Driveclub or The Crew though… ?
Titanfall and whatever other junk MS farts out.
Y do people still hate on FF13? It's done, FF14 is amazing and FF15 is going to be spectacular.
Mad Max is going to be amazing, having high hopes for that game.
I think it's going to be Destiny and the Division.
So basically if Dev's don't talk about a game too much it's bad with respect to this article.

"Y do people still hate on FF13? It's done, FF14 is amazing and FF15 is going to be spectacular."
FFXIII was good but not great. FFXIV is an MMO. FFXIII-2 was also good but not great. FFXV won't be spectacular because there hasn't been a "spectacular" FF since XII.
Ben has declared to the world FF15 won't be spectacular.
Thank you Ben for your honesty
Flawed logic considering it is a different team making FF15.
Saying that FF15 can't be spectacular because FF13 wasn't spectacular is a bit presumptuous.
I have faith in Nomuras team, as he seems like the only person at square that hasn't had their brain turned into mush.
No, he doesn't. He says things all the Square Enix execs say, such as, "We're listening." They never are, which is why FFXV looks more like Devil May Cry than Final Fantasy.
I'm kinda expecting FFXV to be a pretty darn good game, but still not living up to the hype. It'll be just like FFXIII. Above average. Maybe even outstanding graphics. But we're looking at a hype-monster killed title, I bet.
definitely infamous second son.
the more and more i see of that the more worried i get.
the whole point of a superhero is to make you feel like a bada$$, hence the term SUPER!
a superhero whos powers are simply focused on attacking one enemy at a time is just stupid!
they ruined the game with 2, not only by taking away your powers and turning the game into a catch up race, but also by when you finally get them back, making them worse, less powerful, more limited than the original game.
and this looks even worse!
not to mention there is FAR too much focus on melee attacks in the trailers, come on infamous has NEVER been popular and beloved because of the non amazing gigawatt blades or the amp.
The Order: 1886 – we have yet to see footage of the gameplay, yet people are really hyping it up. Remember when Dead Island released that spectacular CGI trailer? Everyone was so excited and then the game turned out to be nothing like it.
This is exactly what worries me about The Order. I think the game concept is great and it has a ton of potential, but the exact same could be said about Dead Island. And like you say, the CGI trailers for Dead Island were great and had me pumped about it and the same is happening with The Order. I'm just so worried that this game is going to be a bunch of pump and fluff with marketing and then come release it's just trash that looks subpar and plays too repetitive and lame.
Hmm…. I get a funny feeling that Ground Zeroes is going to disappoint a lot of people. The Elder Scrolls Online, but I don't really know how 'hyped' that is. The new LotR game is destined to be pants. A lot of people seem excited for it, but it ain't vibing with me. And I hope, rather than think, that Destiny and The Division are gonna fall on their heads. I just do not want their sort becoming a template. I know you said one, but… Nah, I have no excuse 😛
And I'm looking forward to Lightning Returns. Maybe not hyped for it, but still…
The Order comes across as over-hyped for me. I just don't see what there is to be so excited for yet.
I am also very sceptical about MGS:Ground Zeroes. But then again I am one of the very few who got underwhelmed by MGS4.
I am also *worried* about Dragon Age Inquisition. But that's mainly because I'm so emotionally invested in that title so it pretty much must be of stellar quality for me not to feel a bit disappointed.

I'm very excited for it because I like the Victorian London setting. I've always been a fan of British history, so in my case I'm definitely up for it.
I'm not looking forward to these games, but many people are. I think The Order and South Park: Stick of Truth might possibly be huge disappointments.
As much as I hate to say it because I'm very excited for it, I would say The Order. When I first heard about the game I only heard that Sony Santa Monica was working on it. I eventually found out it's a co-effort with Ready at Dawn, and then I feared. RaD did an excellent job at bringin us the GoW franchise to a handheld, but as you said, they are new to AAA titles, so we'll just have to wait and see.
I would also say Titanfall XD. Not because I don't support MS or any of that, but I just don't see anything to get excited for in that game. Add to that the lack of single-player and having to pay a premium. No thanks. I think they even admitted yesterday or a few days ago that it is hard to market it when there is no SP present, or something of the sort.

MGS and the overhyped titanfall
Titanfall, lack of single player might be a bad move, the way it is, an awesome SP mode can be made, I'm just wondering why didn't they.
Dying Light though I sincerely hope not.
Watch Dogs.

I really really hope not, but am afraid that you could be right. It is a great game conceptually, but I am scared with it being a cross generational game that it can't live up to the potential it has.
ahhh The elephant in the room.
Thief but I hope not.
I have a feeling that mgs ground zeros will be ok but got great. I am also very worried about games that show a bad ass cgi trailer.
I think the success of Infamous will have a great impact on the PS4's early success. I'm a huge fan of Infamous, but after Killzone and Knack I'm kinda worried.
I'm thinking Watch-dogs. It feels kinda Remember Me-ish. Great concept with potentially flawed execution. Hope I'm wrong.
MGS Ground Zeroes or Drive Club for different reasons. MGS with the whole GT-like prologue thing going on seems really suspicious, and Drive Club's lofty promises during the PS4 introduction with a lot of CGI video…
But I could just as easily point at FFXV or Titanfall…
I think destiny will disappoint, but I hope I'm wrong. I'm also worried about mgs v. Again, I hope I'm wrong
The Order. I can't really express particularly what's gripped me so tightly but it probably has to do with a fresh team with proven technical skills that have a very ambitious and interesting idea. That almost certainly is beyond their bounds.
I can't see it reaching some sort of respectable middle ground with the hype train it started. We need a new trailer and it has to be transparent.
First E3 after new consoles, None better, and I can't wait to see this play out.
