The latest Tales of entry is currently in development for the PlayStation 3, and producer Hideo Baba has given JRPG fans a bit more information.

During a recent Famitsu interview (as translated by Siliconera ), Baba spoke about the game's protagonist, Alicia, and how this particular installment will be different than past Tales titles.

Click the link to read up on Alicia, but what we find particularly interesting is the producer's comments concerning the battle system. He says it will revolve around "sword and magic fantasy," which isn't exactly surprising, but he adds that it will be "quite different" from what long-time fans are used to. He further adds that we'll receive an evolved form of the familiar linear-motion combat mechanic, and there's a "big surprise" in store, too. Dragons will play a large role in the game's story, which is nice to know…'cuz dragons rule.

Lastly, Baba said the scenario and character designs are basically finished, and now the team is working on "various systems and graphics." If you weren't aware, last year's fantastically fun Tales of Xillia was a the surprise Best Role-Playing Game winner in our Game of the Year Awards. Can Zestiria also capture our hearts?

Based on the little bit of footage we got I think that "big surprise" will be that there is no separate battle screen. It looked like it took place on the field like Final Fantasy XV, which I tend to hate but I'll deal with it for a good Tales.

I like what's said about this character, JRPG people are always so much deeper and more complex to explore than the surfacey "realistic" people in western RPGs.

What's Sega have to do with anything? This is Namco.

I think Sega has some loose corporate affiliation with Namco, but yeah it's not like it's a Sega game.

Need to get Xillia yet, but Zestiria is definitely on my list. The last of the generation and surely the best. Not sure about dragons though… feels a bit cliched.

I strongly endorse Xillia asap. The prices are agreeable and the game is non-stop fun with some cool characters. At first they seem pretty stock, along with the story, but as usual things get much deeper and more interesting. Also the combat evolves all the way to the end.

So far I'm actually enjoying Xillia more than Graces F (which by the way was fun too). Xillia seems to have some of the coolest character in the Tales of series I've experienced thus far. There's even things to like about the antagonists.

Can't wait for Xllia 2. Some have said that it is better than its predecessor.

Yes shadowscorpio I enjoyed Xillia much more than Graces f – which I can't even bare to finish Future Arc and start New Game+ for Platinum right now. Both great RPGs.

Xillia 2 will be the 2nd coming.

FF has made me resistant to change. I shall await this game with furrowed brow.
