PSXE Poll Update: TLoU Winning GotY Was No Big Surprise

It wasn't a surprise when the community selected The Last Of Us as their 2013 Game of the Year, and obviously, it was no surprise when PSXE picked the same game.

The overwhelming majority of participants in our latest poll predicted that the PSXE staff would give Naughty Dog's masterful title the overall GotY award. And as most of you have already seen, that's exactly what happened .

The astounding game also took home Best Graphics, Best Acting, Best Artistry/Art Direction, Best Character (Ellie), Best PS3 Game and Best New IP. Some might call that domination, but don't forget that Bioshock Infinite was awarded Best Writing/Story, Best Trailer (Beast of America) and Best Shooter, while Grand Theft Auto V took home Best Multiplayer Game and Best Action/Adventure Game, and Gran Turismo 6 earned Most Underrated and Best Racer. Metro: Last Light landed an all-important Most Overlooked award and other winners included Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag , Tearaway , DmC: Devil May Cry and Puppeteer .

For the full list of winners, click the link above. This week, with the Tomb Raider Definitive Edition coming to the PlayStation 4, we want to know if you plan on getting it. Do you already own the original game and still want this upgraded version? Are you just not interested either way? Make sure to read our preview before making your final decision.

I bought the original but didn't play much of it because I got distracted by another game. I thought what little I played was pretty good so I'm buying the Definitive Edition on the PS4 and will play that one through to the end.

I wants it, the PS4 keeps saying "Feed me" cuz it gots nothin' to eat. And it was such a good game I'd like to see what it's like with the bugs fixed and even prettier graphics. Gotta get a collection goin too.

They should have allowed us to upgrade. It is the only way I would do it.

i knew this site was gonna pick The Last Of Us. As i said it before and i'll say it again TLoU is the single most overrated POS game this past generation has ever seen.

As for this weeks poll Hell yeah im gonna get it haven't played the game yet and im glad i waited on it.

I agree that it's slightly overrated in most places and I got rid of it as quickly as I could finish it, but it was also the highest quality game of 2013. It created the biggest positive ruckus in the industry and advanced the cause of dramatic artistic gaming and character development. It was also a new IP in an industry where the rules say that you must be a sequel to be that successful. Although I found the story itself cliche, the storyTELLING was unparalleled. The game just dominated man. When I talked to Ben about it we felt would be a pretty big reach to give the award to anything else, in other words we would have to ignore reality to pick something else.

When you consider what TLOU did well, it's hard to imagine it going elsewhere. Especially when considering the new things it brought to the table.

I've got the PC version of Tomb Raider which is basically what this "definitive" edition is, so there's be no point in me getting it. I think it's total BS that they spent a year working on this – their list of "new" features is just a catalog of the features that all PC games have that weren't previously available on consoles. 60 fps, 1080p, much higher resolution textures, better anti-aliasing, dynamic lighting, DirectX11 for the particle effects, TressFX for the hair (that's an AMD program only used on Tomb Raider), etc. Calling this stuff "new" is nothing more than marketing hype to try and justify charging sixty bucks for porting it over.

There are some things that PC didn't get, but I don't see what the big deal is. PC is always better than consoles and the whole product is based around being a better console version.

yeah, Square Enix is very greedy but that's nothing new.

A little groggy, I overstated things unintentionally and then thought I better change it 🙂

So I played about two hours of Bioshock Infinite this weekend and I must say that it was just too… creepy, fictional and boring for my taste. I did not enjoy the gameplay whatsoever. The shooting felt like something out of Borderlands. I am very glad that I did not purchase the game. I have a 7 day PSN+ trial that came with Gran Turismo 6.

To each their own, but Bioshock Infinite was a disappointment.

What was creepy about Bioshock Infinite? you spend most of the game in well lit, lushly coloured environments. Sure it has its atmospheric moments, but nothing I would describe as being flat out scary. And what do you mean by too fictional?

I agree about the gunplay being lackluster though. I thought the enemies were rather generic and the game throws so many at you during each skirmish, the combat just starts getting tedious after a while. I slogged through it because I liked the story and premise and really wanted to see how it all played out.

Anyway, back on topic. So TLOU won GOTY. I give it props for being a top quality piece of software, but that's it I'm afraid. Played it. Enjoyed it. But I doubt I'll revisit it. It just didn't make the impression on me that it seems to have made on the gaming public at large.

That's a shame, but it's good you didn't buy it then. As a lover of fiction I like an imaginative game. You need to stay away from Fallout though.

Even though I have yet to play Last of Us (a friend is supposed to lend it to me soon) it was obviously going to get GotY, just like it did on so many other sites.

I beat Tomb Raider shortly after it first came out so, even though I don't mind enhanced editions, there just isn't enough new ground to warrant double-dipping.
The PS4 enhanced edition I'm waiting for is Diablo. I've held off on everything but the demo so when it finally arrives on next-gen it will still be fresh for me.

As much as tomb raider was a commendable game, I wish the developers could somehow get around to FINALLY making a new Legacy of Kain/Soul Reaver.
