The PlayStation 3 version of Minecraft is finally ready to go.

As revealed over at the PlayStation Blog , the massively popular title will release for the PS3 on December 17. PS4 and Vita iterations are also in the works but Mojang doesn't yet have dates for either.

The PS3 Edition features everything in the Xbox 360 version, and they're "pretty much identical to play." Downloadable skins and texture packs will be available to purchase from the PlayStation Store some time "soon" after the release. Now Minecraft can reach even more gamers; over 10 million copies have been sold thus far on PC, Xbox 360 and mobile platforms, and the phenomenon should just keep getting bigger. Are you a master builder?

I'm not but I can see where this sort of thing could be highly addicting.

My nephews have been harassing me endlessly to buy an xbox 360 again so they can play this game, now, with xmas a few days away I can get them the game they're desperate for without having to fork out for another console and guaranteed 2 happy little boys for the festive season ūüôā

My boy's gonna lose his mind…I've been letting him game on the PC lately and this is all he wants to play. I gave him my old Fat PS3 and access to my ps+…So now he has over 160 games and Minecraft coming soon…needless to say I don't have to buy any games for him for years.

This really is not a console experience… yet it remains one of the best selling game on Xbox of this year… I'm sorry I just dont see the point of this, I would even challenge the right to call it a 'game'. People refer it to being a digital form of Lego, which I don't class as a 'game' either – If anything this is just software.

The problem is, if you slap something like this within the gaming community it will suffer the way Little Big Planet did. A bombardment of content which replicates video game architecture/levels. People rarely create anything unique or substantial with it. There is just something less authentic about seeing a structure on Minecraft than in Lego.

Well seeing as you have to gather materials to survive in the world and defend yourself from monsters, create farms and hunt animals for food, craft portals to go to another realm for other materials, and eventually find a dungeon to enter a portal that takes you to a final boss, that in of itself sounds just like any RPG style game to me. You have the option to just build if you want, but that's just the creative side of the game. The survival portion is the main game, but people who only look at it from a distance only see just a building game. I've played the game since Alpha when only around 3000 copies had been sold, and it really has come a long way since then. It's more "game" then people give it credit for.

Never been a fan of this game. I lasted only 10 minutes trying it out and a few hours watching friends play while at the same time I was trying not to nod off.

Regardless, if its you thing… Merry Xmas!

Keep playing!

I never could get into this game and don't see why others like it.

Never understand the love for this game. Phone version held no interest for me, and porting it to the ps3 seems like an insult more than anything else.

The phone version was a pretty cheap, featureless version of the real game.

I wasn't the biggest fan but I loved moving around the world and soaking in the atmosphere. That soundtrack is just the thing to mellow out with after a bad day. Go on Youtube and watch the Rooster Teeth "Things you can do in Minecraft" series. The range of things that you can do with the basic toolset is amazing.

Not interested.

Notch is a lame douche, and I don't support people like him with my money.

I don't care that much about it, but a friend shared a PC online play vid between a few buddies that was kinda fun to watch. I just remember getting a kick out of one of the guys setting fire to robots or other things and exclaiming, "Burn for your beliefs!"
