It has indeed been a very long wait and unfortunately, there's no knowing when the game will finally hit store shelves.

But at least the game's director has apologized. During a recent Edge interview , ICO and Shadow of the Colossus guru Fumito Ueda apologized for the numerous delays suffered by The Last Guardian .

"More than anything, I feel terribly sorry that for various reasons I have kept my audience waiting for such a long time."

The game has been in development for over five years now, even though Ueda's contribution to the project was apparently completed "a long time ago." Unfortunately, he can't give us a status update, either, as he says the "details of when, where and how" the game will be finished are beyond his control. Well, remember that he left Sony some time ago, and he has been performing his services on an outside contractor basis.

Over the years, the updates have not been encouraging. We've heard reports that Ueda isn't exactly the easiest guy to work with, and Sony boss Shuhei Yoshida has said that development is "very slow." At this point, it's probably safe to assume that Guardian is a PlayStation 4 project; let's hope we hear more soon.

Kinda late for that, this game couldn't possibly turn out good at this point.

If it's *anything* like the masterpieces that are Ico and SotC, I still have every reason to believe that the game can be an artistic success.

My only real worries are that the game will take longer if it goes next-gen or it will become vapourware. ūüôĀ

Name one game with these same massive delays and design problems that ultimately came out a masterpiece and I'll be quiet.

But… we don't want apologies. We want The Last Guardian.

Still really hopeful that this turns out to be as wonderfully evocative as ICO and SotC were.

people wouldent care if they at least showed something, some screenshots, ANYTHING!
but of course they wont say, shu was asked on friday if he was playing it on the DS3 or DS4 and all he could do is smile and say i dont recall.
which is his way of saying DS4 but i cant say so yet.
for f*cks sake $ony, just announce it already!
this is coming to the ps4, so whats the point of pussyfooting around it for so long!?
not to mention everyones complaining that theres no traditional game that normally releases with playstation, well what better way to silence them and boost the sales of the ps4 than the revival of TLG?
eh, maybe that will be at the VGAs this year, maybe thats why geoff asked.
or maybe will be seeing pigs fly backwards while juggling flaming pitchforks before we ever see this.
to be honest i really couldent care which.
we never see it, is probably a good thing because whatever you imagine is most likely going to be better than, well, lets be honest development hells hardly kind to games.
i cant think of a single game that was in development hell for so long and ended up surprising everyone.
cough aliens colonial marines, DNF, hell even LA noire and max payne 3 were not amazing crash hot games.

I'll only pay attention to news on this as soon as it gets a release date. there is just no point getting hyped for this anymore. If it gets released great, if not so be it.

I don't get excited about games unless they're like two weeks away from release therefore I was never excited about The Last Guardian. They should get their act together though.

My concern would be is what game he would have done or be doing for the PS4 if he or they had come out with Last Guardian on the PS3. The game may now be a generation behind and forgettable.

Keep playing!

I was too excited about this game for way too long. It's all used up, I've got nothing left. Instead of getting excited about TLG news now I just roll my eyes when I see the headlines.

If Last Guardian gets a proper release date and we get some new screens/footage, then I'll surely get excited again. I can't forget how amazing ICO and SoTC were.

Any way you look at it though; The Last Guardian is going to have to be a stellar game to live up to the hype and justify the painfully long development cycle. They may have dug their own grave by announcing it too soon, before it was ready… before it was even a game.
